Fuel system: components and work

The fuel system provides the engine of the machine with fuel. This is necessary for the car to drive. This system cleans and feeds gasoline into the engine, prepares, directs the mixture into the engine cylinders. In different modes of operation, the engine consumes a different in its quality and quantity of gasoline. Here we will consider why this system is needed, from which nodes it consists.

There are two types of engines:

- Injection, which since 1986. Most applicable in production. In them, the computer monitors the fuel injection and controls the operation of the motor. This technology has reduced fuel consumption and reduced the release of harmful substances into the environment. The method is based on an injector that opens and closes with an electrical signal.

- Carburettor. In them, the process of mixing gasoline with oxygen occurs mechanically. This system is quite simple, but you need frequent adjustments and major repairs.

The fuel system of a car consists of such mechanisms as:

- fuel lines;

- fuel filter;

- injection system;

- a sensor indicating the remaining fuel;

- fuel pump ;

- fuel tank.

Fuel system of a diesel engine and a gasoline engine has the same structure. The only difference is in injection technology.

Fuel lines serve to move fuel throughout the entire system of the car. There are two types: a drainage and feeding. In the supply, the main volume of the fuel system is located and the required pressure is created. Unused gasoline through the drain goes back to the tank.

The means for cleaning fuel is a fuel filter. It incorporates a pressure reducing valve, which is designed to adjust the pressure in the entire fuel system. From the valve, excess fuel is supplied to the drain line. If the machine has a direct injection system, then there is no valve in the fuel filter.

Another design has a filter of diesel engines, while the very principle of operation remains unchanged.

Replacement of the filter is made through a certain mileage of the car or after the time of use.

The injection system creates the necessary mixture when feeding fuel, enriches it with oxygen in the right amount and quantity.

The sensor in the fuel tank indicates the volume of fuel. It consists of a potentiometer and a float. When the fuel volume changes, the float changes its location, this is moved by a potentiometer, as a result of which we see a change in the fuel gauge on the sensor in the car's cabin.

Support for the required pressure in the system is due to the operation of the fuel pump. It is equipped with an electric drive and is fixed in the tank. Sometimes an additional pump is installed.

The entire fuel supply is located in the fuel tank and ensures uninterrupted operation of the car.

The fuel system needs to be cleaned, as it is susceptible to contamination. Cleaning reduces the fuel consumption, increases the service life of the engine, accelerates the dynamics of movement, increases the speed of the machine, reduces the emission of toxic substances.
