Smartphone Nokia 5500: review, specifications and reviews

Cell phones "Nokia" are found on the shelves less and less. Gone are the days when mobile phones of this company were one of the most popular among users. They were replaced by Android smartphones, which boast better performance and additional features. However, Nokia's cell phones have not completely lost their fans. Until now, there are users who like the company's devices, despite the lack of modern functionality. Most recently, Nokia 5500 was especially popular, it was made in the best traditions of the usual mobile phone. The model remains relevant today, so it deserves a review.

Equipment

The phone is sold in the usual box for the company. It shows a recognizable logo and indicates some data about the model. The Nokia 5500 is quite generous:

  • phone;
  • Branded charger;
  • A stereo headset for sports;
  • MicroSD card at 64 MB;
  • CD-ROM with software;
  • Manual;
  • USB cable;
  • strap;
  • Clip;
  • Small pouch;

Agree that not every modern smartphone can boast of such a set.

Design

The Nokia 5500, whose body is made in titanium or black, looks more like a device for young people. This is emphasized by many details, for example, the yellow border around the display, smoothly shifting to the send and reset buttons of the call. Edging not only plays the role of a beautiful design element, but also protects the screen from unwanted damage. Thanks to her phone, you can safely put the screen down. Immediately it becomes clear that the developer tried to make every little detail perfect.

As already mentioned above, Nokia 5500 Sport is available in two color variations: black with white inserts, titanium with yellow. The first version is made in a low-key style, which is perfect for an adult generation and daily use. Titanium color with a yellow edging made more catchy and playful, like young people, athletes. It is worth saying that this approach to color design has borne fruit. The model was perfectly purchased by users of different ages. What is surprising, the phone is interesting to the female sex, apparently, due to the availability of functions for active sports.

Housing

Nokia 5500 XpressMusic is positioned as a secure model and confirms this. The phone is based on a metal chassis, metal is also used on the front side of the device. The side faces are made of dense rubber. The back cover is made of dense plastic, which is able to withstand falls from a serious height. It is fixed to the body by means of a rotary mechanism. A rubber cover is attached to the cover, which protects the ports from the bottom of the phone from dust and moisture. When using the interface part of the device, the plug is bent to the side. During operation, the rubber becomes softer, and the plug can open independently. This moment Nokia 5500 can be attributed to the manufacturer's shortcomings.

The right end of the mobile phone received an infrared port, as well as keys for controlling the player and the standby mode. On the left side there are two separate buttons for adjusting the volume level and the Push To Talk button. On the top edge is the familiar on / off key of the device, which also provides quick access to profiles. Here is a flashlight, you can activate it by pressing "*". At the bottom, under the plug, is the charging port and the headphone input.

On the back side of the Nokia 5500 is the company logo and the peephole of the 2-megapixel camera. It is placed habitually for such devices, there is no flash and autofocus.

Keyboard

It is made of rubber in the form of a monolithic block. The keys are pressed nicely, they have a characteristic sound. There is a white highlight, bright enough. You can disassemble symbols in any conditions. There is a four-way navigation key, in the center of which is the "OK" button. The block is not very large, which can cause inconvenience to users with thumbs. However, most owners quickly get used to such an arrangement. Due to the structure, accidental clicks are excluded even in your pocket, so you can not use the keypad lock. The buttons for sending and receiving calls are made miniature, but it's nice to work with them. The edit key (pencil) has been moved to the side to save space on the main square.

Screen

The phone received a TFT-matrix with a resolution of 208 x 208 pixels, capable of displaying up to 262,000 colors. The display is rather small, due to the small size of the case and the security. It is known that the screen is the most fragile part of the phone, so the developers decided not to make it big. In the game for the Nokia 5500 on this display is not very comfortable. In the rest it's not bad. Excellent colors, different "live" picture. In many ways, it even surpasses the screens that are installed in the models of competitors.

Because of the low resolution, only 9 menu icons can fit on the screen, but they are not badly drawn. To use it is comfortable, the eyes do not get tired, it has a good reserve of brightness.

Battery

Applications for a smartphone, as you know, quickly put the battery. However, the Nokia 5500 did not receive a decent battery, which could provide long-term autonomy. It has a detachable battery for 860 mAh. This capacity is due to the small dimensions of the case. In the talk mode, as the manufacturer assures, the phone is able to work up to 4 hours, in the standby mode there are more than 200 hours. At medium loads, the model works for about 2 days. I must say that all the mobile phones of the 60 series are voracious, 5500 - was no exception. Applications for the smartphone especially quickly discharge the battery. The duration of the work, perhaps, is the weakest point in this device.

Performance

The model is implemented on a platform familiar to Nokia. The processor is capable of performing most tasks, running at a clock frequency of 220 MHz. Under applications, 32 MB of memory are claimed, but about 10 MB are available to the user. The interface works smoothly, there are no departures and hangs. Most programs and games designed for this platform run without problems.

To increase the amount of memory, you can use memory cards such as microSD. The tray for them is located under the battery, which is logical for a protected device. Of course, it does not support hot swapping.

Sport mode

This is one of the key features of this model. The work became possible thanks to the 3D-sensor, which is built into the hardware part. It is quite accurate when counting the passed steps. There are minor mistakes, but you can close your eyes. In general, the sensor is suitable for a normal workout. Go to the sport mode by pressing the button on the side of the device. In this case, it will change the color of the backlight.

The user can access the Sports menu, which has three icons: a quick start, a training diary and tests. Tests are presented in two versions: running on time and cycling. In the first case, the user needs to overcome a certain distance in the allotted time, his results can be entered into the table. The second test is useful for fans of simulators. With the help of it, the user can obtain information about the loads and track them.

The "Quick Start" mode immediately starts the usual measurements. Here, the user becomes available data on his speed, spent kcal and distance traveled. The program can start working immediately, that is, the user does not need to make any settings. It can be rolled into the background. The application can run for several days, recording the owner's records.

In the workout diary, recorded or planned exercises are recorded. Each of them is indicated by the corresponding icon. There is a calendar that allows you to mark out the workouts and monitor progress. This possibility is relevant for athletes. "Nokia" provides the user with a set of software for a personal computer. With the help of it, you can save data about training and exercises.
