Fresh water

Water is the basis for the functioning of all the ecosystems of the planet. Many countries experience an acute shortage of clean fresh water today. According to the UN experts, for 1/6 of the population, access to drinking water is limited, and for 1/3 access is limited even to technical water used in everyday life - to water that can not be called drinking water.

What causes the problem of fresh water?

First of all - the growth of population. Every year, the number of people on the planet increases by about 85 million, which, respectively, increases water consumption.

In a geometric progression , pollution of the environment by various kinds of wastes, including sewage, also grows. Already in this century, world needs will significantly exceed freshwater supplies.

Global warming causes glaciers to melt more intensively, storing two-thirds of all fresh water. In the Alps, for example, glaciers lose up to 1% per year. It turns out that the loss is 10% every 10 years, 20% every 20 years. And this means that by the end of this century from the glaciers, perhaps, there will be nothing left. The same applies to Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia. Moreover, the melting of Alaska glaciers accelerated twice.

Plus, the melting of Arctic ice has accelerated, which will inevitably cause an increase in the level of the World Ocean. And this means that in the next 20-30 years under the water may be London, Berlin, Paris, New York, St. Petersburg, other cities.

According to classified statements of analysts of the Pentagon, climate change will soon cause the largest floods, lead to disasters of a global scale. It is not difficult to guess the consequences: serious military conflicts will begin. Drinking water will become strategic object No. 1. Its reserves will decrease so much that the government of most countries will have to protect their resources by resorting to weapons, and mass destruction. Wars for the possession of sources of fresh water can begin around the world. The emerging situation of the authors of the report was equated with what was happening about 8000 years ago: crop failures, famine, epidemics, mass migrations, fierce wars.

Fresh water in Russia is one-third of the world's total. It turns out that it is Russia that automatically becomes the main object for encroachment, a potential tidbit for most countries.

What does Lake Baikal alone cost? This is pure fresh water, the volume of which is equal to the volume of the five Great Lakes in North America, which is 23,000 cubic meters. Km! This is 20% of the total fresh water of the whole planet. Baikal has no analogues.

Actually, fresh water has become a strategic commodity now. We are no longer surprised by plastic bottles with plain water on store shelves, although it was a rarity 20 years ago on the territory of the CIS (former USSR). Every year more than 100 billion liters of water are sold, the profit from the sale is fantastic: a trillion dollars annually (and this is approximately). This is about half the income of all oil companies. Everything goes to the fact that a business built on clean water (without quotes, in the literal sense) will become the most profitable. It is possible that pure fresh water will become a deficit even for our children ...
