Flux in children and adults

Flux (more scientifically, periostitis) is an inflammatory process of the jaw in the periosteum with a mandatory formation of a purulent tumor. Most often, the flux is due to a tooth injury , inflammation of the dentogingival pocket or dental diseases. This is a kind of "reward" for a person who does not bother dentists with frequent visits, because often the onset of the inflammatory process can be noticed at an early stage and prevent tooth loss and other complications.

Flux in a child and an adult is diagnosed easily enough even by a beginner specialist, since the symptomatology is very bright:

  • Body temperature above 38 ° C (at the beginning of the disease may be lower);
  • Swelling, swelling and redness of the gums;
  • Aching intense pain in the area of the affected tooth, which can spread to the entire head;
  • Disorders of appetite and sleep.

Flux in a child and adult can be both acute and chronic. With an acute flux, a serous or purulent inflammation of the periosteum occurs . Such a flux in a child often begins with extensive destruction of milk teeth. The mucous mouth becomes hyperemic and painful. The pus over time can fill the focus of inflammation and grab all the soft tissues of the face and even the neck. Particular danger is that pus is spread between the muscles, which leads to phlegmon - acute diffuse purulent inflammation of the soft tissues. It is the phlegmon that can provoke even the death of the patient. The chronic form of the flux develops slowly, sluggishly, but the swelling and pain constantly increase.

Flux in a child can occur without a strong increase in temperature, so at the slightest suspicion (swelling of the cheek, tenderness, changes in behavior, trauma to the tooth) it is necessary to urgently appeal to the dentist, it is better for the child.

The medicine for flux has not yet been invented, since it is important not only to remove symptoms, how many to eliminate the cause of inflammation, and this can only be done by a doctor surgically, because, first of all, it is necessary to remove pus from the body. The most effective way to treat flux is periostotomy. Due to the modern achievements of dentistry, this operation can be made as painless as possible, especially this is important when treating flux in children. After surgery, a person needs rest, it is good if rest can last several days. At the same time, the house will need to continue treatment with general therapy: antibiotics, decongestants and anti-inflammatory drugs, physiotherapy.

Treatment of flux in children is more often done by removing the milk tooth, which caused inflammation. Also prescribed drugs that contribute to the decline of puffiness.

The treatment of flux during pregnancy is greatly complicated, since various interventions, especially surgical ones, are contraindicated in the first and third trimester. Therefore, those who plan pregnancy need to take care of their dental health in advance and come to consultations, and with indications for their treatment, to the doctor, so as not to jeopardize the life and health of the unborn child. Of course, if the flux has already begun during pregnancy, then you need to see a specialist as soon as possible, he will try at least to relieve the pain and prevent the spread of pus.

Remember, self-medication with a flux, especially with a baby's flux, is unacceptable. Yes, it is possible for a time to reduce pain and swelling of tissues, but the cause will still remain and, in the end, will lead to serious consequences. Special prevention in this disease, except for regular visits to the dentist and proper dental care, does not exist, so with all the desire to prevent it is impossible. Be attentive to yourself and your loved ones!
