Fluorescent lamps, their features and application

Among the energy-saving light sources, fluorescent lamps were the first to appear on the market. Without them, modern offices, warehouses, large stores, as well as schools and hospitals are simply not possible. Such fluorescent lamps significantly save electricity, are characterized by warm white radiation, high resource and democratic prices, which contributes to their wide distribution. They have a fairly long service life - up to 20 thousand hours, but subject to a minimum number of cycles of switching on and off (under other conditions they fail much faster).

To date, the modern buyer offers fluorescent lamps with high intensity. They contain chemical components that help to smooth out the jumps in the light spectrum. True, they are not able to design light for a long distance, so they are used to provide visibility of closely-spaced objects.

It is worth noting that fluorescent lamps are most often produced in the form of glass tubes, which are filled with a special metal powder and contain electrodes at their ends. They are characterized by a balanced color, which allows you to get soft light, devoid of shade. They are produced with a power of 18-36 W and a length of 60-120 cm, a light temperature of up to 6400 K, so everyone can choose the most suitable model for themselves.

In addition, compact fluorescent lamps are available in various forms - a conventional bulb, a small spiral or in the form of a lotus. The market also presents their reflex types, which have a special aluminum coating. It gives a more directional luminous flux, which is important to ensure the appropriate design of the premises.

I must say that fluorescent lamps are indispensable in cases where it is required to illuminate an industrial or business premises, since they have a high return and give uniform light. They are characterized by their compact size and beautiful appearance. In addition, they do not require a professional connection, since they can easily be used in place of traditional incandescent lamps and can be installed without problems in the standard base. In this case, technical light can be obtained not only with the help of luminaires of strict shapes, but also models that are made according to the latest trends in design art.

If we talk about gas-discharge fluorescent lamps, they resemble neon signs and are glass flasks, in which pairs of mercury and sodium are used. The internal surface of such lamps is covered with a special composition called a phosphor and turns ultraviolet rays into a visible spectrum of light.

It must be said that when adding these impurities to the mercury-gas mixture of these impurities, it is possible to obtain luminescence of a different spectrum - white, color or black (UV). If, for their manufacture, use a special quartz glass, it is possible to obtain lamps that are used in medicine, since they are characterized by UV radiation of mercury and give a bactericidal effect.
