Familiar actors. "The calculator" - a domestic fantasy thriller

Low-budget domestic fantasy thriller "Calculator" (actors: A. Chipovskaya, E. Mironov, V. Jones) is based on the same name by A. Gromov, a famous science fiction writer who appeared in the project as a screenwriter. A larger number of filming days (17 out of 20) the whole group held in places where previously filmed episodes of "Prometheus", "Oblivion", "Noah" and the series "Games of Thrones."

Among the producers of the picture there is a significant showman Fyodor Bondarchuk, who owes his appearance to the project many actors. "The calculator" can be called an international project due to the presence among the executors of the main roles of the star of foreign crime comedies Vinny Jones ("The Bonebreaker", "Cards, Money, Two Barrels"), which embodied the image of the main antagonist of the thriller.

The director of the project was Dmitry Grachev, known to the domestic audience for comedy melodramas "Wedding for Exchange" and "The Bride at Any Price", which collected an impressive cash register in the Russian Federation. The actors invited to the project enjoyed working with him with pleasure. "The calculator" was called a "designer" film by domestic film critics, thanks to the efforts of the whole casting casting and crew.

Plot

The film "The Calculator", whose actors and roles correspond to each other, were selected under the vigilant control of F. Bondarchuk, has an interesting but far from innovative plot. A group of ten prisoners is sentenced to life exile from the planet XT-59. They must survive on the Sargasso swamp, the nature of which in every way tries to destroy them. The protagonist, nicknamed the Calculator (actor Yevgeny Mironov), having secured the support of Christy (actress Anna Chipovskaya), decides to go in search of the Happy Islands, which, according to legend, are a real oasis in the middle of a lifeless and desert planet.

Justin Van Borg (foreign actor Winnie Jones) with the rest of the unfortunate group does not support the initiative of the protagonist and is sent to the really existing geographical object Rotten strand. The routes of both groups practically coincide in the beginning, a lot of dangers, disagreements, obstacles await ahead of the heroes. Sci-Fi fantasy

The literary work "Calculator" in its original version is not intended for entertaining cinema, however, for the art house the option is also not obvious. This is a fantasy "clueless" style, unplayable for staging, not technological, rather, psychological-social, and to the finale is absolutely philosophical. In general, the entire star cast of the picture is an excessive luxury in this "design" thriller, in which the focus is not on the human nature, as in the literary source, but on the original visual stylistics, which has no analogues in contemporary Russian cinema.

Priorities of the director

The film "The Calculator", whose actors are known and loved in Russia, according to the director Dmitry Grachev, is an act of contemporary art. Therefore, Grachev, placing priorities, deliberately abandoned the wet and marsh aesthetics, which is saturated with the story. The authors of the painting, focusing on the embodiment of their artistic concept, "drained" not only marsh aesthetics, but also partly psychological and philosophical background.

However, such an author's decision did not prevent the actor's ensemble from realizing its creative potential. A wonderful dramatic actor E. Mironov remarkably got used to the role of his character, revealed to the viewer his image. Sometimes he dramatizes a little, as if he is playing on the stage of the theater, but he also demonstrates to the full his visionary mind multiplied by the faultless intuition typical of the main character described in the literary source. In his professionalism had the opportunity to verify all the actors involved in the shooting. The "calculator" would not be so penetrating if the protagonist was played by someone else.

The antagonist and the girl of the protagonist

Actress Anna Chipovskaya in her role looks more than organic. Chipovskaya managed to make her heroine a truly cosmic girl, in which genuine innocence and inner strength are combined. The girl, according to the author's idea, should make a choice between the repressed presidential adviser, gifted with genius prudence, and the real bandit Polar Wolf. It is embodied on the screen by the very Winnie Jones, whose texture and organics, irreplaceable for the roles of real messengers and scumbags, was once seen by Guy Ritchie. Nothing supernova to the image of the brutal actor "Calculator" is not added.

Performers of the roles of the second plan

Present in the picture are theatrical veterans - serious dramatic artists Ivan Verkhovyh and Vladas Bagdonas, who played the secondary roles of two more exiled unfortunates. Also the viewer necessarily learns in the image of representatives of law enforcement agencies Kirill Kozakov and Nikita Panfilov. Each of the above actors demonstrated a game of the highest level, authentically transferring the characters of their heroes, taking into account the fact that they spent their whole conscious life in a system of total control. Separate film critics scold the actor's ensemble of the picture, stating that all the characters are empty and the actors are to blame for this. "The calculator" introduces the viewer to the heroes, who are unable to decide on their own, to think, how can their spiritual world become rich?
