Electrochromic glass: modern tuning in action

Electrochromic glass (smart glass) is a composite consisting of several layers of glass, as well as special chemical materials. Its key distinguishing feature is the ability to change the coefficients of light transmission and absorption of thermal energy, as well as other physical properties under the influence of external factors. These factors can be quite different: illumination, temperature, electrical stress.

Specialists have developed several basic technologies that allow producing electrochromic glass:

  • Manufacture of a polymer liquid crystal layer;
  • Layer consisting of suspended particles;
  • Electrochromic (electrochemical) layer.

As an alternative to the use of electrochromic glass, there are also traditional methods of darkening the windows of cars: for example, it can be all of us known tinting by film or by spraying. As for the advantages that the standard methods have, it can be noted here that perhaps the possibility of their self-realization. However, every year they are increasingly yielding their positions in favor of modern, practical and functional electrochromic glass.

Let's see how the electrochromic glass works. Electric energy enters the electrochemical layer. The voltage is only needed 1 time to change the degree of transparency. Then this process takes place without the participation of power supplies.

Despite all the advantages, there is some disadvantage in this. In particular, if in addition to protecting from sunlight, you also need to protect yourself from extraneous views in the parking lot, you need constant food. This method of toning meets the requirements of GOST.

At any degree of transparency, electrochromic glass has a light transmission capacity equal to 77%. Also, the darkening of the glass has no effect on the change in the degree of protection from ultraviolet radiation (most often this figure is 85%).

In terms of washing, electrochromic glass does not require any specific maintenance. Due to the fact that the liquid crystal layer is placed in the middle of the smart glass, it can not be accidentally damaged.

On 1 sq.m. Electrochromic glass needs from 6.5 to 7 watts of energy.

Due to the unique features of the manufacturing technology, electrochromic glass on the car can be curved in any way, taking the required shapes.

The only drawback that this type of toning possesses, perhaps, is its cost. One square meter costs the owner of the car in the area from 850 to 1500 $. However, electrochromic glasses on the car have already managed to prove their effectiveness, as well as the fact that they justify their high cost by one hundred percent!

To establish toning of this type for your car now it is possible practically in each city. In addition, many car manufacturers appreciated the new technology and began to introduce it into batch production.
