Eggplant, growing seedlings at home

Eggplants or, as they are called in the south, "blue", refer to one of the most useful vegetables. The rich content of minerals, vitamins, pectins, protein, the ability to remove cholesterol from the body - that's what eggplants are. They are imported from India, they love light and heat, they do not tolerate frosts at all. Therefore, even in the south of our country they are grown in a seedling manner. Sow seeds for seedlings in February - early March. If you are going to plant aubergines in your greenhouse , growing seedlings should begin on time. It is believed that more than 3 months pass from sowing to fruit ripening.

In the middle belt, it is possible to achieve a good harvest only in conditions of closed soil, in a greenhouse. The soil for planting seedlings must be warmed up to 20 degrees. Counting the time when planting eggplants on seedlings, it is necessary, based on the climatic conditions of the area, taking into account whether the greenhouse you have heated or not. In southern regions, seed is sown in early February, in the middle zone - in early March.

Growing seedlings

For sowing seeds you need to prepare the soil. It should consist of peat + sand and mineral fertilizers. From the ready you can take the "Living Land", universal or intended for tomatoes.

It is believed that the "blue" picking is badly tolerated. Therefore, we recommend not picking eggplants. Growing seedlings are immediately in pots with a diameter of 10 or more centimeters. Sow it is necessary to 2 seeds. When they go into growth, a weaker plant will have to be removed. In the ground the seeds are buried 1 cm and watered well. Plant seedlings in a warm place, with a temperature of at least 23 degrees. Top with a film or transparent covers. Periodically, the soil is moistened.

Seedlings appear after 6-7 days. When the seeds come up, the pots must be put on the light. The air temperature should not be high (no more than 15-18 °). At this temperature, the roots of the seedlings develop better. Seedlings watered sparingly. When it thrives, the temperature can be raised to 20-25 degrees.

Those who prefer to dive eggplants, growing seedlings should be done a little differently. Seeds are sown in a box with an interval of 5 cm at a shallow depth in the pre-moistened earth and covered with a film. When the seedlings appear, the boxes are placed on the window. Air temperature and watering should be the same as when growing in pots. In the phase of one real leaf, the seedlings can be dived, transplanting each plant into a separate container with a diameter of 10 cm. For a couple of days they should be pritenit. When the plants move into growth, the boxes are placed on the window.

Plants need to be periodically, once every 2 weeks, to feed urea or Kemira.

If you like eggplant, growing seedlings will not seem to you time consuming. Seedlings are ready for planting when the plant has at least 8-10 true leaves. If it is not landed on time in the ground, it can stretch out a lot and then hurt for a long time. Therefore, some vegetable growers advise sowing eggplants 2 months before landing on a permanent place.

Landing in heated greenhouses in southern regions is produced in April, in the middle zone - in May. The main condition - the land in the greenhouse should warm up to 20 degrees, otherwise the plants will stop in development and may even die. At night, if the temperature is significantly reduced, eggplant should be covered with acrylic. "Blue" do not like shading, so they need to choose the most sunny place on the site, where the shadow of the buildings does not fall during the day.

Sometimes by the age of 2 months the seedlings are not yet ready. Therefore, the timing of planting aubergine on seedlings should be determined, based on their specific conditions. Soil, care, temperature and illumination significantly affect the development of plants. If the greenhouse is not heated, it is better not to rush in places with the threat of recurrent frosts with a landing, as eggplants may die when the frost is strongly frozen. In a greenhouse, seedlings are planted at the rate of two plants per square meter, they are well watered. Care includes watering once a week, loosening the soil and top dressing up to 3 times during the season. After watering, the greenhouse is ventilated, as high humidity for plants is undesirable.
