DPDZ - what is it? Adjustment of GPRS. Throttle Position Sensor

A modern car consists of a number of units and assemblies. And even the failure of the smallest of them can lead to very serious consequences. One of these small components is the throttle position sensor (DPDZ). What is this part and how to determine its malfunction? The answers to all these and many other questions will be learned in the course of our today's article.

Characteristic of the element

Throttle - this is a constructive component of the intake system of gasoline internal combustion engines. Its main purpose is to regulate the amount of air entering the engine. In other words, this element controls the mixing of air and fuel in certain proportions. It is established DZPZ VAZ and many other domestic cars between the intake manifold and the air filter.

By its design, the throttle sensor is a kind of air valve. When the element is in the open state, the level of pressure in the vehicle's intake system is atmospheric, and when closed, this value is reduced to the vacuum state.

The throttle position sensor includes a single-turn permanent and variable resistors. Their resistance in the total is about 8 kOhm. At one of the terminal pins of this element, a small reference voltage is supplied from the controller (the second terminal is connected to the "ground"). From here through the resistor to the controller there is a signal about the present position of the throttle valve at the moment. Often this is a pulse with a voltage of 0.7 to 4 volts, depending on the level of the element's position.

Varieties

In total, there are two types of DRSP. What are these elements? It can be a part with a mechanical or electric drive. The first is often used on cars of budget class. All its constituent elements are combined into a separate unit, which includes such details as:

  1. Housing.
  2. Throttle.
  3. Sensor.
  4. РХХ (the regulator of idling).

The damper housing is included in the car cooling system. There are also nozzles, which provide operation of systems for catching gasoline vapors and crankcase ventilation.

The idle speed regulator maintains the engine speed when the damper is closed during start-up and warm-up of the motor or when additional equipment is operating. PXX consists of a stepper motor and a valve. These two parts regulate the air supply, which enters the intake system bypassing the damper.

However, in the past few years, more and more automakers have been equipping their cars with electric-powered flaps. Such elements have their electronic control system, which ensures the optimal torque value on all speed ranges and machine loads. At the same time, not only does the capacity and dynamics increase, but fuel consumption and the level of toxicity of the exhaust gases are reduced.

Differences between electric flap

What is the difference between this part and its mechanical counterparts? Its main differences are in the absence of a mechanical connection between the gas pedal and the DZ, as well as in regulating the XX by moving the damper itself.

But this is not all its features. Since there is no rigid connection between the gas pedal and the throttle, the electronic system can itself affect the torque of the ICE even if the driver does not press the accelerator. All these changes are due to the actions of the input sensors, the control unit and the actuator.

In addition to the DPDZ, there is an accelerator pedal position sensor in the electronic control system, as well as a brake and clutch position switch. Thus, the engine control unit responds to all signals from the sensors and converts these pulses into control actions on the damper module.

Module design features

This element includes such mechanisms as:

  • Housing.
  • Throttle valve.
  • Electric motor.
  • Reducer.
  • Throttle position sensor.
  • The return spring mechanism.

Sometimes in the car install immediately 2 DPDZ. What does this give the car? In principle, it does not add any power, but if one sensor fails, the work can continue the second one. Thus, the installation of two TPR is carried out to improve the reliability of the module. These elements can be either contactless or with a sliding contact. Also in the design of the module is the emergency position of the flap. It works thanks to a spring return mechanism. If the module has come into malfunction, it changes entirely in assembly.

DGPD: malfunctions

Like any other part, the throttle position sensor has the property of failing. In this case, you need to know the main symptoms of its breakdown. So, what are the signs of a malfunction?

First of all, it is worth paying attention to the engine running at idle. If its revolutions "float", perhaps this indicates an incorrect operation of the sensor. Also, the symptom of its malfunction may be the engine stop when the throttle is suddenly released. The sensor malfunction is very noticeable when overclocking the car. In this case, there may be dips in speed dialing (it seems that the engine does not receive any fuel at all). Sometimes when driving, the machine may not respond to the accelerator pedal. In addition, the engine speed can hang at the level of 1.5-3 thousand and do not go down even with the gear off at idle. That is, the signs of the failure of this element are directly related to the operation of the engine, and any incorrect operation may indicate a malfunction of the sensor or the damper. If you notice at least one such symptom, then you need to test the performance of the DPDZ. VAZ-2114 Samara and its successors are diagnosed almost identically. Therefore, the instructions given below can be applied to all cars of domestic (and even foreign) production.

How can I check the DPDZ on my own?

It is possible to diagnose the throttle sensor without the help of experts. All you need from the tools is a multimeter. So, turn on the ignition and look at the dashboard. If it does not light the Chek Engin bulb, raise the hood and look for the damper sensor.

Now we take a multimeter in hands and check for a "minus". To do this, turn off the ignition and find the "mass" among the wires. This is easy to do. Then we turn on the ignition again and find the supply wire. This way, we will make sure that the sensor is supplied with power.

What to do next?

After that, check the opening of the contacts XX. They are located on the sensor connector on the top or bottom. We connect to the contact one of the wires on the multimeter, and the second we will move the flap. If all is well, then at the slightest movement the voltage level on the device will change to the value on the battery. If the arrow of the multimeter remains in place on the scale, check the serviceability of the variable resistor that is inside the DPDZ. What is this element and how to diagnose it? This resistor is a component of the damper sensor, which changes its resistance depending on the level of the pedal position. And it is checked as follows. To begin with, the multimeter is connected to the remaining wire, the ignition is switched on, and after that the shutter moves very slowly. In doing so, you need to carefully look at the state of the arrow on the instrument cluster. There should not be any jumps. If they are, most likely, the engine is malfunctioning.

Correct throttle setting

How does self-regulation of DPDD occur? This operation does not require special skills and knowledge, so even a novice motorist can cope with it. For adjustment, it is necessary to disconnect the corrugated pipe that conducts the air. Further, this element is thoroughly washed with some strong solvent. It can be alcohol or gasoline. For convenience, it is recommended to clean the corrugated tube with a piece of rag. But not only we process it with gasoline. Further similar manipulations are made with an inlet collector and the throttle заслонкой. After you wash the last element, carefully inspect its external state.

Correct setting of the throttle position sensor

If the damper is not mechanically damaged, proceed to the adjustment procedure. To do this, loosen its fixing screws, raise and release sharply. Here we must hear the blow of the emphasis. Next, we adjust the tension of the screws until the "biting" of the part disappears. After that, fix the screws with nuts and loosen the sensor bolts. Then gently rotate its body and set its position so that the voltage changes only with the opening of the throttle. After that, you can back up the bolts and start using the car. As you can see, adjusting the throttle and its position sensor is not a difficult process at all, almost every car owner can cope with. At the same time for the entire repair is enough to spend no more than 10-15 minutes of free time.

Conclusion

So, we have found out what the throttle valve, DPDZ is and what elements it consists of. Finally, it should be noted how much is the new throttle position sensor. The price for this element varies from 200 to 800 rubles. It is sold both in stores and in automobile markets.
