DOSAAF: what is the Voluntary Society for Assistance to the Army, Aviation and Fleet?

The abbreviation DOSAAF - what is it? This question is probably for all who have ever come across this word. This organization celebrated its sixtieth anniversary in 2016. In the jubilee year, chairman Alexander Kolmakov, who is chairman of the DOSAAF, said that by 2020 Russia will have 18 centers where active work will be carried out within the framework of military-patriotic education. In the Soviet Union, the voluntary society for the support of the army, aviation and navy carried out slightly different tasks.

A look into the past

During the civil war in the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, a new defense organization, called the Military Science Society, was established. For six years - until 1926 - they studied the experience of the Civil War, developed methods of training soldiers. In addition, the specialists of the Military-Scientific Society were engaged in propaganda of military knowledge among representatives of the working class. At the end of July of the twenty-sixth year of the last century, the VNO was renamed the Society for the Defense of the USSR. And six months later he was connected to Aviakhim, which included the Society of Friends of the Air Fleet and the Voluntary Society of Friends of the Chemical Defense and the Chemical Industry. The new name - AVIAKhIM-OSO - changed over time: "The Society for Assistance to Defense and Aeronautical and Chemical Construction of the USSR." It was this organization that became the predecessor of DOSAAF. In 1948 on the basis of the society, DOSFLOT, DOSAV and DOSARM were formed - independent organizations.

DOSAAF USSR: Defense and Patriotism

1951 was marked by the merger of DOSFLOT, DOSAV and DOSARM in DOSAAF. The new organization was supposed to contribute to the defense capability of the Soviet Union, to prepare the working people for the defense of the Motherland.

Then DOSAAF, the decipherment of which was known to every citizen of the country, performed many tasks:

• Prepared the guys for a difficult service in the ranks of the Armed Forces;
• Educated citizens of the love of the Soviet Army and readiness to defend the interests of their native country;

With the collapse of the Soviet Union, DOSAAF ceased to exist. What is ROSTO - this question then excited the inhabitants of the new country. The Russian defense sports and technical organization appeared in Russia in late September 1991. The organization trained wishing (not gratuitously) parachuting, shooting, driving. And on December 7, the Government of the Russian Federation returned its historical name - DOSAAF.
