Description of the picture Vasnetsov "Carpet-plane." History of painting

One has only to look at the pictures created by Viktor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov, as soon as you feel the enormous power of the unique gift of the one who wrote these fabulous canvases. Description of the picture Vasnetsov "Carpet-plane" will help to understand how amazing talent this artist possessed, who created more than one fairy-tale work.

Childhood and the artist's youth

Viktor Vasnetsov was born on May 15, 1848. Since 1858 he studied at a theological school, and then continued his education in the seminary. While studying there, Viktor often took drawing lessons from Chernyshov. With pleasure I did sketches from nature, painted with plaster sculptures, helped Michael Andriolli in the painting of the cathedral. So passed the childhood and adolescence of the one who painted the picture "Carpet-plane."

In 1867, Victor, not justifying the expectations of his father, who wanted his son to become a priest, left the seminary. He did not even finish his studies. Vasnetsov decides to enter the Art Academy. The study here lasted until 1876.

Of course, the description of Vasnetsov's picture "Carpet-plane" is first and foremost a story about the talent possessed by this remarkable artist. But did it immediately come to him fame? Unfortunately no. Viktor Mikhailovich earned his living by private lessons, collaborated with magazines and made illustrations in various publications.

Creativity of Victor Mikhailovich or major events

In 1876 Vasnetsov married with Alexandra Ryazantseva. Then he goes to the capital of France, but in a few years he returns to Russia. And before you start the description of Vasnetsov's "Carpet-Plane", it is worth noting that this artist has brought many of his remarkable works into the treasury of Russian art.

To his thirties, Viktor Mikhailovich was an artist who was defined and well known. His genre paintings, dedicated to the life of urban lower classes, were seen and recognized by a wide range of fans. Moreover, some of them were purchased by Pavel Mikhailovich Tretyakov, a very serious art connoisseur. But something tormented the artist. The soul wanted something else.

Three canvases ordered by Savva Ivanovich

It was 1878. Savva Mamontov, who was at that time a major industrialist, was building up the Donetsk railway. It was supposed to connect the Donetsk coal region with industrial centers. Savva Ivanovich knew his friends-artists well and was aware of Viktor Mikhailovich's interest in Russian antiquity. That's why he ordered several works for Viktor Vasnetsov for the main office of the Donetsk railway.

One of them - the painting "Carpet-plane" - was supposed to represent a symbol of victory over space. The work was great. As if Viktor Mikhailovich himself had picked up a fire-bird and set foot on a miracle carpet. He looked up from the ground, from the familiar images of her life and began to see what could not be felt down there. A fairy world where heroes fight with monsters, where a frog can turn into a beautiful princess, where people and animals speak the same language.

A new genre of painting - fabulous

The description of the painting "Carpet-plane" is a vivid example of how an artist, as if not wishing this, created a new genre of painting - a picture-story. And now he knew that he would write. The Mamontovs started to put home fairy tale "The Snow Maiden", and Viktor Mikhailovich had to paint the scenery.

Wide brush, large scale, generality. All that the theater requires from the artist was that clue that proved to be extremely important to him. And the fairy tale theme itself, and, of course, Ostrovsky's remarks, a brilliant writer. It will take decades, many times will be staged "Snow Maiden". The scenery will be written by such masters as Korovin and Golovin. But vynetsovskie still remain unsurpassed.

The fairy tale stayed with Vasnetsov until the last days

"Knight at the Crossroads" - this canvas Vasnetsov can be considered a self-portrait. At that time, he seemed to really stand at the crossroads of his creative path. The painting was written a few years before the picture "Carpet-plane" by Vasnetsov appeared. And now, until the end of days, Viktor Mikhailovich will work, immersed in the world of fairy tales, epics and legends.

In the Mamontov estate there will be his "Hut on chicken legs". And when Pavel Mikhailovich Tretyakov was going to build a new building for his sprawling meeting, he turned to Viktor Mikhailovich, and according to his drawings this house of arts with a facade and decoration in the Old Russian style was erected. And then Vasnetsov himself built a wooden house with a steep roof, a fairy-tale house in which he spent the last thirty years of his life. Here everything was in the Russian style: a stove with tiles, an oak table, sturdy stools and paintings on the walls.

The long-standing dream of mankind

Madly loved fabulous stories Viktor Mikhailovich. Any person who once saw the "Three Heroes" or "Alyonushka" written by him, would never have confused him with anyone. The same is the picture "Carpet-plane" by Vasnetsov, and the canvas "Ivan Tsarevich on the Gray Wolf." How bold Ivan appears on the canvases of the artist. Overcoming all the dangers, not afraid of any height or speed of the carpet.

But the most important thing is how Victor Mikhailovich could depict the land and all the objects on it. As if he himself climbed on this carpet and saw everything from the height of the flight. With this picture, the author seems to have expressed the old dream of all mankind - to rise to the sky and soar like a bird, watching the retreating earth, rivers and floating treetops.

Description of the picture "Carpet-plane". Vasnetsov and his fairy-tale characters

But what fate was waiting for the picture? When all members of the railroad board saw the canvas, they may have been amazed by her talented writing, but nevertheless are shocked. How can such a painting hang in a serious institution, where some important issues will be decided, where the officials meet? Mamontov himself was to blame for something, because he did not express any wishes when ordering, and granted the artist maximum freedom, which Vasnetsov used.

"Carpet-plane" was criticized by all founders of construction, and as a result a unanimous decision was taken - to abandon the masterpiece altogether. But Mamontov bought the painting and added to this masterpiece his personal collection. A bit later Victor Mikhailovich decided to show this painting at the next exhibition. But even here the reaction was ambiguous. Someone admired the picture, others judged. But it was from this moment on, the artist began talking even more than before. Many realized that with this work the author expressed a great love for the creativity of his people and the hope for his beautiful and bright future, in which Vasnetsov himself believed. "Carpet-plane" was for him that symbol, which will lead to something amazing and fabulous.

What does the viewer pay attention to when looking at a famous masterpiece?

In the works of Victor Mikhailovich, associated with fairy stories, there is a unique combination of simple and ingenious. Where can I begin the description of Vasnetsov's picture "Carpet-plane"? First of all, with fantastic figures, which you initially pay attention to. A firebird, and a prince, and, of course, a miracle carpet. Noticeably the opposition of the fairy-tale world to the real.

If you look carefully at the canvas, it is immediately noticeable how the tone of Vasnetsov's colors was distributed. The upper part of the picture is brighter, more saturated. Although the only source of light that illuminates it is the firebird. Each character is so realistic that stroking this canvas, involuntarily it seems that somewhere really there is such a carpet.

Fairy Tale and Reality

As for the lower part of the picture, the usual uncanny atmosphere, over which the miracle carpet flies, seems more dull and even lifeless. A lazy river, rare trees and fog covering the earth, and the moonlight, reluctantly illuminating the space around itself.

But it is very difficult to convey all the deep meaning that the author put into his work, in a simple description of the picture "Carpet-plane". Vasnetsov, using fairy-tale characters, not only expressed the dreams of any person - to rise above gloomy routine, to find his fairy tale, to become happy. Victor Mikhailovich in just one picture was able to convey how vast the Russian expanses are, filling them with romance and tenderness.

The painting, written in 1880, today became so popular that its reproductions can be found not only in many private houses and apartments, but also in institutions such as schools, kindergartens or polyclinics. And not only the adult, but every child, without hesitation, will say who is its author and how it is called.
