Day of the Russian Language: History and Features of the Holiday

The issue of the urgency of studying, preserving traditions and the infallibility of the Russian language in our country has been maintained for many decades. Day of Russian language first began to be celebrated in the 60's. By the eighties it was held annually, but dates were usually timed to the jubilee celebrations of writers, and he had no status of a state holiday.

A nationwide love for the Russian word

Interest in the history of the native word has been awakened in mass during the struggle against general illiteracy. Together with the development of the written language, students were accustomed to hear the richness of the vocabulary of the Russian language and the melodiousness of the poetic syllable. People absorbed knowledge, learned to read, first listening, and then independently reading literary works of Russian classics. In Soviet times, the love of the native language in our country was all-consuming, and it was not important for people what day of the Russian language was considered a holiday. It is simply embarrassing to write, not to be able to quote AS Pushkin, not to recognize the syllable of M. Gorky.

Even during the war years, the teachers of literature arranged thematic holidays dedicated to the word of Russian writers and poets. People exhausted by war and hunger, listened with trembling to the voices of readers, forgetting for a while the horrors of reality. The strength of the Russian influence on the fortitude and courage of the soldiers was great. And in the traveling mags of many fighters carefully preserved volumes of Russian classics were carefully preserved.

The beginning of annual celebrations of Russian literature

Status of the state holiday The Day of Russian language acquired in the XXI century. But the first attempts to legitimize and attach special significance to this event were made back in 1996 in the territory of the Crimea. The question was not only about the scale of the celebration, but also decided on which days of the month the Russian Language Day will be especially noticeable for society. This year the Crimean Russian community proposed to establish such a holiday as the Day of the Protection of the Russian Language. To attract everyone's attention, we decided to celebrate it in June - the month dedicated to the memory day of A. Pushkin.

Day of Russian language: the history of celebration

Already in 1997, on the initiative of the defenders of the native literary language, for the 200th anniversary of A. Pushkin, the day of June 6 was first announced as the Day of Russian Poetry, and from that time the festival is celebrated annually. Lush events timed to this date were held not only in our country, but also in many other countries, attracting new, young listeners to the ranks of lovers of Russian poetry. The all-Russian status of the holiday enabled the literature to draw public attention to the problems of preserving the purity of the Russian language.

Ten years of discussion on the need to develop interest in language for young people took to make a meaningful state decision. In 2007, an article entitled "Let It Be a Day!" Appeared on the pages of the "Parliamentary Gazette". Its author, I. Klimenko, can be called the herald of the idea of the nominal day of the native language. I must say that this appeal was not heard right away. First, the slogan "Russian language in every house" served as an occasion for the opening of a new annual festival of literature - "The Great Russian Word". For the second year the festival acquired the status of an international one.

Russian language outside the motherland

In 2010, the idea of establishing the days of languages of international importance was supported by the UN Assembly by setting the dates for the celebrations of French, Chinese, English, Russian, Spanish and Arabic. And a year later the Russian president officially announced the Russian Language Day. A month of celebrations, no one doubted - June.

From this time on June 6, the date for the glorification of Russian poetry throughout the world is celebrated as the Day of the Russian Language. It is carried out as part of an international program aimed at expanding the boundaries of the multilingual space and supporting the equal importance of the six official languages recognized by the UN.

Popularization of the Russian word in modern society

Nowadays, the world community recognizes Russian as one of the most popular in the world. In distribution, it ranks fourth after English, Chinese and Spanish. Interest in our language is constantly growing, first of all it is determined by the Russian cultural heritage. It is this factor that always determines the degree of mutual understanding among people of different nations.

Today, no longer surprises the desire of foreigners to read our classics in the original. The economic and business spheres of cooperation with Russia are a strong motive for studying Russian by foreigners. In this regard, in recent years, the number of educational programs that have included Russian literature has sharply increased in many countries of the world. According to statistics, today outside of Russia the language of L. Tolstoy and A. Pushkin is studied by almost 200 million people, and the birthday of the Russian language is celebrated in many corners of our planet.

The holiday of Russian literature is a special event in our country

After a few years, the Birthday of the Russian language in our country has become a grandiose event, and the scale of celebrations only increases. The language of A. Pushkin, recognized as the "golden measure" of classical Russian literature, serves as the leitmotif of the whole holiday. As before, thousands of people come to the Pushkin Mountains to once again enjoy the sounds of music and poetry. It is difficult to accommodate all the planned events within a single day, so the festive performances here are held throughout the month. Programs and dates of performances are planned well in advance, and concert venues are filled with both famous and young poets, musicians and actors.

The name of the Russian poet, the genius A. Pushkin, not only unites lovers of literature around him, but also extends the boundaries of the use of the Russian word. His "poetry of reality" and fairy tales, despite the difficulty of translation, gather readers throughout the world, of all ages and nationalities.

This annual event, like the Day of the Russian Language, today has become a testament to the consolidation of Russian-speaking people throughout the world, the connection of generations and the strengthening of the civic position among the youth.
