Day of a military motorist. A bit of history

In accordance with the order number 100 of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, on May 29 in Russia celebrate the Day of a military motorist. It was this date, 104 years ago, that marked the formation of an educational automobile company in our country. The main purpose of its creation was the training of professional drivers of military vehicles.

Therefore, the Day of the military motorist in our country is nothing more than a display of respect for these specialists, as well as full recognition of their inalienable merits. What are the duties of a military motorist? The main area of his activity is the wide-profile transportation of goods, people, property values. However, today a difficult period has come for these troops. Massively closed profile educational institutions, the automobile property is wasted, domestic military vehicles are being written off, and in exchange an imported one is purchased, which is not suitable for operation in domestic field conditions. Therefore, many historians today believe that the day of the military motorist-2013 is also a tribute to the memory of the once prosperous division.

Car troops in the pre-revolutionary period

It so happened in our country that historians do not mention the merits of military motorists. And the only day when they are honored is the Day of the military motorist. Although this, of course, is unfair. Without them, it would be impossible to imagine the prompt movement of ammunition, soldiers and medicines.

The first mention of the use of cars during military operations refers to 1897, at that time there was only one car on the field, but after only 5 years during the fight five cars left already. Of course, at that time they had low power and great weight, but thanks to the professionalism of the drivers, they helped to win the most difficult battles. These cars were De Dion and Lessner. And in early 1924, the fleet of vehicles included almost 8,000 cars, among which there were even buses. Most of them were purchased abroad.

Development of AB before and during WWII

At the end of 1920 the number of military equipment of the Red Army was 7,500 vehicles. But, unfortunately, almost all cars were different and were in a worn condition. Thanks to the autoreform in 1929, significant growth began both in the quantity and quality of the motor vehicle park of the Red Army. In 1940, the Auto-Armored Directorate was named the Main State Academic Bolshoi Theater. And the creation of the 6th department allowed to release this management from solving non-core tasks and concentrate on performing the most important ones.

The beginning of the Great Patriotic War gave a powerful impetus to the development of automobile troops. The tense situation, the need for fast and safe delivery of people and goods, led to an increase in profile automotive parts. So, already in 1942, a month after the beginning of large-scale hostilities, a special road department was created. At the very beginning of the war almost 273,000 cars were accounted for the whole army, and already in the middle of 1945, their number increased three-fold, while almost 10% of vehicles were German, our trophies got to our soldiers.

The merit of automobile troops during the Afghan war

It is impossible not to assess the assistance of the road forces during the fighting in Afghanistan. Mined roads, militant attacks, constant shelling - this is all that had to worry soldiers. However, it was their professionalism, endurance and honor that allowed the timely delivery of food and ammunition, as well as the fastest possible transportation of wounded soldiers. At the same time, 50 automobile columns were located in Afghanistan and carried out their work.

It is possible to say with full confidence that the Day of the military motorist is one of the main military holidays of the country. And you can find out the soldiers who are part of these troops by a special copper special code.
