CPU Fan Error - error correction after BIOS reset

Regardless of the version, BIOS Setup has many settings and options that are responsible for the state of the computer and its components. Among them there is a function responsible for the CPU cooling system, called CPU Fan Control.

Description

This option is responsible for the intelligent fan speed control fan. It reduces the speed of its rotation during idle time and low PC load, when the operating temperature of the processor drops significantly.

Enabling this feature positively affects the noise level of the cooling system, and in some versions the BIOS allows manual switching between intelligent control and user mode. The latter implies the appointment of the number of fan speeds in percent of the maximum allowed by the owner of the computer.

There is also a CPU Speed Fan option that displays the current CPU cooling speed. In some cases, the indicators are accompanied by a color selection of information: blue accompanies the normal value, red - reduced.

However, warnings often operate erroneously when using more modern silent cooling systems. In this case, it is better to disable fan speed control.

CPU Fan Error - what is this?

A message about this error appears when the PC is turned on at the initial stage of the download. It signals a malfunction in the CPU cooler detected by the BIOS when diagnosing system parameters.

In general, the problem can be circumvented without solving, by clicking on the key indicated in the notification, but this will have to be done every time you reboot or turn on the computer, which is somewhat inconvenient. Therefore, you need to understand in detail the causes of the error.

Incorrect BIOS operation

The most common source of the CPU Fan Error message is the wrong BIOS setting. Sometimes this result results in a reset to the factory settings, if the cooler is connected to another connector, uncontrolled input / output system, or with a long period of operation of the PC.

In the first case, you need to switch the cooling cable to the desired connector and set the CPU Fan Speed to Auto. If this procedure is not possible, the monitoring system should be disconnected, since erroneous warnings will not stop.

If the case is at the age of iron, the replacement of the BIOS battery or the setting of the maximum fan speed can help, but this will greatly increase the noise level.

Invalid user settings

Sometimes the error associated with the CPU Fan (which it was written in the section above) occurs when the user manually rotates the cooler's rotation speed to reduce the load on the cooling system. To get rid of the problem message, you need to return the value of the speed parameters to the original one or enable intelligent management of the CPU cooler.

If the user does not change anything in the cooling system settings, the BIOS should be reset to the factory settings, as they are often optimal for the correct operation of the PC.

The physical causes of the malfunction

The above method can help, but sometimes the root of the problem lies in the hardware, not its software component and the failure in the parameters of the CPU Fan option. Thus, if manipulation with the BIOS does not help, you should check if the cooler is working at all, by opening the system unit when the computer is turned on.

If not, then you need to find the cause of this fault. It can be:

  • Heavy soiling of the fan. With large accumulations of dust, the speed of rotation decreases, and sometimes the cooler stops altogether. In this case, it needs to be cleared and the computer restarted to check if the problem is fixed.

  • The cooling system is connected to another connector. The necessary connector is called cpu_fan and is located next to the processor: it is necessary to connect the cooler cable to it.

  • No connection of the cooling system to the motherboard. The solution in this case is elementary, therefore it does not make sense to describe it here.
  • In extremely rare cases, there is a complete malfunction of the cooler, but this only occurs when the machine has exceeded its useful life.

If everything is OK with the BIOS settings, the cooling system is OK, but the error message is still present, the sensor that monitors the number of fan revolutions may be faulty. It is replaced at the service center, and if you do not want to spend money, the cooler speed monitoring system is simply turned off.

A temporary way to get around CPU Fan error

As it was said above, the problem can be ignored with the workable equipment. To do this, you need to deactivate the speed control service of the cooler in the BIOS so that you do not press F1 at every boot.

It's better to start by turning off the cooling system check in the Power section (or close in meaning). The names of this function may vary slightly, but they can always be found by the phrase CPU Fan or Speed Fan, almost always present in the name. Next, the parameter will need to be set to Ignored or N / A.

If you can not find a similar function, you can simply turn off the request to press a certain key if you find any errors during the download. However, this option is suitable only for fully functional equipment, so do not use the instructions below if the cooling system has not been tested.

So, to disable this option, go to the BIOS and find the tab that is responsible for choosing how to boot the OS and setting its parameters. The names may differ depending on the version of the I / O system, but usually they contain the word Boot.

Then you need to find an option called Wait for F1 If Error, which you need to disable by setting Disable to it. After this setting, you must save and restart the computer.

If you follow this instruction correctly, the CPU Fan Error error will no longer bother and take extra time when the system boots until the next BIOS reset. However, if this option does not exist in the existing implementation of the I / O system, and all the above methods do not work, then you will not be able to get rid of the problem without replacing the motherboard .
