This is a story about nine absolutely different people, who by fate's fate found themselves on the "Serenity" spacecraft of the "Firefly" class. The actors who played the main roles were selected long before the official launch of the filming. Joss Weedon himself supervised the casting process. However, there were some failures. Alan Tudik failed the tests twice, but nevertheless the director saw in him something that allowed him to confirm the guy for the role, and he did not lose it. Already after the first takes it turned out that the actress Rebecca Gayheart, originally approved for the role of Inara Serra, does not fit into the image at all, and she was the only one who was replaced. Some of the actors were already relatively well known, and some only had high hopes, but after the "Firefly" almost all of them became stars.

In the distant 2002 virtually unknown to anyone Nathan Fillion was approved for the role of the captain of Malcolm's "Serenity" "Mal" Reynolds, a former military man with a past covered in mystery. The actress did not immediately agree to play in a cosmic western, but the script convinced her.

The incredibly popular actress Morena Baccarin was confirmed for the role of Inara Serra's companion after the filming began, but also in the cast of actors, and she wrote off very organically in the show itself. On her account a large number of popular TV shows and films.

But with Summer Glau Joss Weedon already worked more than once and confirmed her role as one of the first. Actors and creators, but first of all numerous admirers of this cosmic western, long and persistently asked the studio to continue the show and extend the series for the second season, but Fox did not make concessions. The plot clearly required continuation and logical completion. But the rights to the project were with the TV company, and it was not possible to change the channel. So Joss Weedon found another way out, he decided to move events to the big screen and shoot a feature film. The idea was embodied in the release of the film "Mission Serenity" in 2005, which was the continuation and end of the story, started in the series "Firefly". Actors who played in the television version, in full force appeared on the big screen and embodied loved characters. For those viewers who did not watch the original source, the film seemed a little strange, full of so-called "black holes" and not entirely understandable. Nevertheless, the full-length tape turned out to be successful and added a lot of new spectators to the army of "Firefly" fans.
