Connecting the computer to the TV via a WiFi router

Modern technologies are steadily developing, and literally a couple of years ago, TVs with Smart TV (a TV with the ability to connect a computer) were a luxury. But today such a device can be seen in almost every average family. These devices have good synergy with a home computer, whether it's a laptop or a stationary unit.

And although many are already using this smart innovation, not everyone has really figured out exactly how the computer connects to the TV via WiFi. Of course, you can go more easily and connect the two devices via an HDMI cable, the benefit of this interface is equipped with every modern TV and video card of the computer. But this method is not always acceptable, since not all TV is located next to the system unit, and the laptop may not be at hand. Among other things, all kinds of wires significantly limit your movement, making you "dance" in the immediate vicinity of the PC. Therefore, wireless connection of the computer to the TV has its undeniable advantages.

Virtually all the methods that will be described below require a wireless protocol on the TV itself. However, almost all the range of smart models is equipped with a WiFi adapter. The ways of connecting the computer to the TV, described in this article, are applicable for Windows 7, 8, 10 operating systems.

Playing video via wifi (DLNA)

This is one of the most common ways to connect the TV to a personal computer. In addition to having a Wi-Fi adapter, it is necessary that the TV itself be connected to the same network as the computer, that is, a shared router.

If your device supports the function "Wi-Fi Direct, you can do without a router, simply connecting to the network in which the smart TV is located. Wireless connection of the computer to the TV is carried out through the smart device menu on the same principle as similar devices with the "Direct" function.

Next, you need to configure our computer by specifying the correct DLNA server data, that is, to share the folders you need. In such cases, it is sufficient to set the "Home" section in the parameters of the current network. In the basic settings of the section, the "Videos", "Music", "Pictures" and "Documents" folders are already shared, but if not, by clicking on the right mouse button in the "Properties" menu, you can configure the corresponding section.

Conductor

One of the fastest ways to access folders is to open the standard Windows Explorer, then select the "Network" item and after the "Network Discovery" message appears click on it and follow simple instructions. If multimedia messages are displayed instead of this message, then most likely you are already set up for further work.

After the connection of the computer to the TV via WiFi was successful and the DLNA channel began to work, it is necessary to perform further configuration in the menu of your smart device. First of all, try to view the contents of the connected devices. On different brands of devaysov built-in software is different, as well as the program to connect the computer to the TV.

Model Features

Devices from Sony are equipped with a special proprietary software Bravia, where after switching to the Home section, you can see the connected folders with video, music or images. In the software from LG there is a menu item SmartShare, which also shows all the public folders on the computer. For other models of devices, there are similar applications that work in a similar way.

It is also possible to control the TV through a computer (WiFi-DLNA). With the correct configuration of the servers and the router, it is enough to select the desired file in the Windows Explorer and then click the "Play to * TV name *" item in the drop-down menu. In this case, the wireless streaming from the personal computer to the smart device will begin.

Note. Sometimes, even if your device supports the MKV format, these files may not be played through the DLNA connection. The simplest solution in this case is simply to rename the problem file into an AVI extension, and then everything will work.

Wireless monitor (WiDi)

If in the past case it was a question of how to reproduce those or other files from a computer on the TV, having access to them, then we will consider broadcasting any image from the monitor of a personal computer or laptop to a smart device by wifi. Simply put - the use of devaysa as a wireless monitor.

The main technologies used in this case are Miracast and WiDi from Intel, and, judging by the latest data, the second became fully compatible with the first. Connecting the computer to the TV via WiFi-WiDi passes without the participation of the router, because synchronization occurs directly through the "Direct" -protocols.

Requirements

If you have a laptop or a personal computer based on Intel's third generation, then most likely it is equipped with a proprietary wireless adapter and must support WiDi protocols in both Windows 7 and 8. In some cases, an additional installation of the Wireless Display application from Intel may be required, which can be found on the official website of the brand.

If your computer was purchased with a preinstalled operating system "Windows 8.1" and equipped with a WiFi adapter, then most likely it supports Miracast technology. The last generation of OS, alas, does not provide such support, but you can connect a computer and a TV via WiFi using this technology if the smart device has a built-in "Mirakast" adapter.

Connectivity

On your smart device, the settings should include support for the technologies "Mirakast" or WiDi. The basic parameters provide for the inclusion of this function by default, and sometimes this item is simply not available in the menu (it is enough to have the "Wai-Fay" module). It is worth mentioning separately that on Samsung TVs this option is called "Mirror Screen" and this item is located in the network settings section.

WiDi

By connecting the computer to the TV via WiFi using WiDi technology on the PC, we launch the Wireless Display program, and then we find the wireless monitor in the list. In some cases, you may need to enter a security code that is displayed on the TV screen.

Miracast

To use the technology "Mirakast" you need to open the Charms panel, then select the item "Devices", and then - "Projector" (transfer to the screen). Then click on "Add Wireless Display" - and you can start the broadcast. In the event that the last menu item is not displayed, then your personal computer or laptop does not support the "Mirakast" protocols. The only thing that can help is to update the drivers for your WiFi adapter, but if even after this step the support does not appear, then you need to update the hardware, not the soft.

It is worth mentioning separately that with the technology of "Mirakast" there were no problems in the broadcast, while the WiDi protocols were often out of the network, and the whole process of connection was accompanied by small but unpleasant nuances like rebooting devices or incorrect display Model of the TV.

Connecting a regular TV to your wifi

If you do not own a smart device, but your TV is equipped with an HDMI output, then you still have the option to connect it to your computer via a wireless protocol. The only thing that is necessary for this enterprise is an additional gadget specially designed for such purposes.

The most interesting devices in this category are:

  • A branded adapter from the well-known search engine Google Chromecast, which with ease and enviable simplicity will broadcast the contents of a PC or laptop to your TV.
  • "Android mini" for PC - a device that resembles a USB flash drive, which connects to the HDMI port and works with the same system on the TV.
  • Compute Stick from the company "Intel" - the adapter, on board which is the mini operating system "Windows" for full connection and broadcasting via HDMI-port.

There are still some less popular ways to connect a computer to a TV via wireless protocols (such as YUSB or "Mirakast" adapters), but because of their specificity they are not as demanded as the methods described above.
