Classical philosophy in the ancient period

Since ancient times, mankind has sought to cognize the world that surrounds them. Curiosity and the desire for the unknown throughout the whole time led the person forward, forcing to make great discoveries. Now in a world full of information and accumulated knowledge, people solve much more difficult tasks than those that faced his ancestors in the distant past.

Sometimes the question arises: what is the use of classical philosophy? Many even call it pseudoscience, because it does not seem to carry concrete knowledge. This opinion is difficult to challenge, and it is not easy to explain why we learn the knowledge that was comprehended many centuries ago.

For the beginnings it is necessary to disassemble, what place the philosophy occupies in a hierarchical structure of sciences. Any knowledge of man began with a general discussion of what could be. In fact, at the heart of any science lies a huge philosophical layer. Scientists have reasoned on the topic of possible development and only then specific data were introduced and calculations were carried out.

So, classical philosophy is, on the one hand, the forerunner of all scientific disciplines, on the other hand, a very significant contribution that influenced the formation of the worldview. And it is about the second meaning that is very often forgotten, because a person simply needs some guidelines and postulates that will allow him to systematize his knowledge and thoughts.

Ancient period

The most vivid period is the antique, because it was at this time that eminent thinkers emerged, laying the foundation for the future development of the sciences. Here we can distinguish two main types - Greek and Eastern philosophy.

If we consider in detail the classical period of ancient philosophy, it can be divided into several stages, which are characterized by certain features. In general, the ancient period includes any philosophical currents from the 12th century. BC and up to the 7th century. AD - almost 2 thousand years.

This includes the works of Homer, the works of Pythagoras, Democritus and Leucypus, as well as various works of Eastern sages.

  • 1st stage - 7-5 centuries. BC.
  • 2 stage - 5-4 centuries. BC.
  • Stage 3 - 4-2 centuries. BC.
  • Stage 4 - 1 in. BC - 5 in. AD

Classical philosophy in the representation of the ancient Greeks embraced the basic life processes surrounding people. Then their civilization was at the very beginning of development, and they represented the world as a huge cluster of various processes, life and nature. In fact, the Greek classical philosophy of that time is an attempt to systematize knowledge, to order them and to trace various laws.

Much importance was given to mythology, sensual images, metaphors, but attempts were made to connect all this with the knowledge gained about the infinite cosmos and the universe. At that time the unreflexive form of consciousness predominated, i.e. Man did not pay such close attention to himself, therefore the image of the world at that time and the real world did not differ, but also did not combine.

Later periods of classical philosophy

Ancient philosophy of the classical period is characterized, first of all, by the emergence of deep, fundamental philosophical systems and various classical schools: the Platonic school, the school of peripatetics, skepticism and the Epicurean school.

In the subsequent stages of the development of history, Rome took the leading role, therefore it already had a major influence on the formation of philosophical views. Greek views received their subsequent development simultaneously with the formation of new trends and trends. All this had a significant influence on the formation of the world outlook of mankind at that time, on the formation of the principles of morality and law, and also on the development of science and other key branches of human existence.
