Chelyabinsk: Theater "Mannequin" (history, repertoire)

History of the theater

The theater takes its beginning in the distant 1963, when students of the ChPI performed at the amateur art show among the universities of the region. Until 1966, a group of student artists was called the Student Theater of Variety Miniatures, which later became known as the "Mannequin".

In 1967, the premiere of the play "Lubava" was seen almost all of Chelyabinsk. The "Mannequin" Theater received the "Eaglet" award from the Komsomol Regional Committee. With the same performance, actors performed at the Seventh International Festival of Student Theaters in Zagreb (Yugoslavia).

In the history of the "Mannequin" a lot of participation in various competitions and festivals, in most cases artists and directors became laureates (Gorky Festival of Student Theaters, Festivals in Wroclaw and Tashkent, etc.).

In 1969, four performances were shown in Novosibirsk. In 1975, Moscow saw the plays "Theatrical comedies" and "After the Tale." From 1983 to 1987, the "Mannequin" was part of the concert brigades, which toured the Arkhangelsk, Perm regions, the Republic of Komi, and Sakhalin.

In 1990, the first trip abroad for the international festival in Des Moines took place. The play "The Black Man" won several prestigious awards, and the theater gave performances in several cities in the US and Canada.

From 1991 to 1993 there were active tours around the country with performances "Black Man" and "Pippi".

In 1996, Europe was conquered. The play "Don Juan" was seen in Vienna, Bratislava, Prague. Europeans could not even imagine that there are so many talents in the Russian heartland, and there is an unusual city - Chelyabinsk. Theater "Mannequin", having made a European tour, glorified not only his city, but the whole country.

In 1998, America was again, this time Chicago and Sue City (Iowa).

Closure of the theater

In 2009, the Culture Department of the Chelyabinsk region made a dubious decision to reduce the funding of the existing Arts Center. In fact, this meant massive layoffs and, as a result, the closure of the center.

Such a decision did not leave anyone indifferent. The local and Moscow press discussed this high-profile case for several weeks. The main theatrical figures of Russia (Galina Volchek, Mark Zakharov, Pyotr Fomenko) wrote a letter to President Dmitry Medvedev in defense of the "Mannequin" right to exist.

In spite of halved funding and denial of support from the Culture Department, the "Mannequin" continued its work by launching a new project "Art Insomnia."

On the cold February day of 1996, the opening of the Studio-Theater "Maneken" was held in the same basement of the student hostel.

Until 2000, the studio theater acted only at festivals and student competitions, but after that it began producing plays for the "big spectator". In 2001, the play "Clinic" was staged, consisting of mini sketches. He is the most popular in the repertoire of the studio.
