Cat-metis: character, description

Of the variety of breeds of cats, the most common is the cat mestizo. Such animals often inherit genes from two or more breeds, so they differ in mind, health and a more complaisant, affectionate nature. This is due to the fact that often mestizos take the best features of the parent couple in order to survive.

History of cats and their breeds

The cat and the cat are the creatures of nature, and their preferences are natural. For the continuation of the family, they choose a couple, based on certain criteria, where in the first place is strength, endurance and health, and only then - external data. Domestication of cats began about ten thousand years ago, and at that time all cats did not have a certain breed, but living in different localities, they differed in appearance and character.

With the spread of the world, the cats of different localities crossed among themselves and the first mestizos appeared, which, in turn, continued to multiply. So there were modern cats that differed in physique, length and color of hair, character. With the development of progress, the study of genetics and the identification of the causes of differences in the color and character of pet animals began, as well as their unification into separate groups-breeds.

All breeds have their own history:

  • Some arose naturally without human intervention, such is the Siamese cat.
  • Others are artificially derived, by means of long crosses of different species. One of the representatives is a Briton. In fact, it's a cat-half-breed, whose parents were English and Persian domestic cats.
  • In the third, the main distinctive feature of the breed is caused by a mutation of the gene, for example, in Scottish cats - this is a lop-eared. Subsequent work was aimed at preserving such features.

Today there are more than 400 breeds of cats.

Mammal Cats

Despite the fact that kittens from representatives of different breeds can be bright, elegant and amusing, the mestizos will never become owners of the pedigree and will not take the first places at the exhibitions.

Cat-mestizo - what is it? The answer to this question is known to every breeder who ruthlessly culls kittens born from different breeds. But in fact many modern breeds have appeared by chance crossing. So there was a breed of brumillas from Papa-Persian and mother-bruma. The first offspring was not considered a breed, but thanks to the labors of the breeder, who continued to work on improving the new species, brumilles recognized and contributed to the International Register of thoroughbred cats.

Mestizo Brits

A mixed breed of cats has always existed, and the British are no exception. The history of their origin began with the islands of Britain, where the imported Persians were crossed with local representatives - English domestic cats. The new breed was called British. She combined English intelligence and Persian proud stubbornness.

To get new colors, breeders crossed this breed with their relatives - Persians. As a result of their labors, a cross between a Briton and a Persian appeared. Elimination of such mestizos continued until 2003, after which it was banned due to signs of degeneracy of both breeds. Today, a kitten from a Persian cat and a British cat is characterized as mongrel and does not get seats at exhibitions.

Also relevant were the matings of the British and Scottish shorthair cats, who occasionally led the Scottish Fold or the Scottish Fold. Since the lop-eared is caused by a mutating gene, the binding of the two mutants is forbidden due to the risk of appearance in the offspring of incompatible hereditary diseases and deformations of the skeleton.

The result of mating a Maine Coon and a common cat

The cat and cat-maine coon were excreted in a natural way and all the efforts of the breeders are aimed at preserving their character traits:

  • Friendliness;
  • Steadiness;
  • Complaisance;
  • Caution;
  • Absence of aggression;
  • Loyalty.

The Maine Coon metis, obtained as a result of the breeding of a representative of the breed with a normal cat, loses its characteristic features or is distorted. The color of the coat will not change much, because most of the mongrel cats have a color similar to Maine Coon, but genetic traits of ancestors may appear. The color of the eyes will depend on the dominant color of the father or mother.

Maine coons have medium-length wool, and if the partner was smooth-haired, the kittens will be born with short hair.

The nature, weight and structure of the body is difficult to calculate. Metis Maine Coon can combine the traits of both parents and have different indicators. Kittens are more massive than mongrel cats, but they are inferior in size pedigree cats, the same applies to character: some are affectionate, others are more aggressive.

Thai cats and their differences from mestizos

At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Siamese cats appeared in England , but people noticed that they differed in body structure and divided the breed into two kinds:

  • Cats of a strong constitution and a round head - the progenitors of the present Thais;
  • Graceful with an outstretched muzzle - Siamese.

Thais became interested in scientists and began work on improving the breed. As a result of the work today there are three kinds of Thais: classical, traditional and modern.

Pedigree Thai cats should have a large round head with a high forehead and a bulging, powerful sternum. Almond-shaped eyes and diluted ears prove that the breed came from the East. Thanks to numerous crosses, the standard color of Thais was diluted with cream, red, tortoise and tabby (tiger).

By nature, these are devoted, balanced cats with high intellectual data, very sociable and are able to change intonation.

The metis of a Thai cat after crossing with a domestic cat has a pronounced external resemblance to the breed, but it is fundamentally different in character by an unbalanced psyche. Such mestizos can be aggressive and evil. This is due to the instinct of the hunter, who is forced to defend his territory in the streets.

If the mestizo originated from different breeds, then in character and appearance, the traits of both parents will be seen.

A metis or a mongrel?

True pedigree cats are much inferior in number to mongrel and mestizo, the difference between which lies not only in color, but also in behavior and health. As a result of family ties that were carried out for improvement, thoroughbred cats have numerous mutations and a number of congenital pathologies. Métis and mongrel are distinguished by stronger physical data and immunity.

Non-breeding cats often have short hair, which helps to maintain hygiene. The most common color is tiger, but there are also tortoiseshell, blue, spotted and monophonic. According to the external characteristics of courtyard cats can be roughly divided into northern and southern type. Inhabitants in the north are more dense, light wool and stocky large physique, while southerners are darker, smoother and more elegant.

The cat-mestiz also refers to mongrel, but has the characteristic features of thoroughbred cats. This is manifested in color and physique, character and health. Metsis have a chance to get hold of the breed. To do this, the owners need to breed their offspring from the parent couple of the half-breed (but not the pope and mother, but the same breeds) and cross the offspring among themselves. And only the fifth generation can become a candidate for pedigree.

What good are the mestizo

Despite the fact that mestizos can not become winners of exhibitions, such cats can be kept as a faithful companion. They will please their company and will not cause much trouble, because unlike the thoroughbred brethren, the mestizos are different:

  1. Health. Possessing stronger immunity, the half-breed is sick less often.
  2. Intelligence - much easier to train and accustom to the tray.
  3. The unpretentiousness of food.

The character of the half-breed is formed from the characteristics of the breeds of his parents. It can be dominated by both maternal and paternal qualities, or all together. According to the structure of the skeleton and aesthetic data, the cat-mestizos can surpass parents, but the winner of the exhibition will never be.

How to choose the right kitten

To not lose with the choice of a pet, it is not enough to listen only to the inner flair. Experts advise to follow the basic rules:

  1. Ask the breeder about all the offspring to determine if the kittens are suitable: where they grew, what kind of character, whether they were examined by the veterinarian, whether the kittens were taken in hand after two weeks of age.
  2. Whether preventive treatments and inoculations were carried out.
  3. Initially look at my mother.
  4. If the kittens from the nursery, you should learn as much as possible about the parents.
  5. Do not take stubborn representatives who hiss and scratch.

A healthy animal can be identified by the following signs:

  • Clear eyes without discharge;
  • Net area under the tail;
  • Shine of wool;
  • Absence of bloating - the first sign of helminthiosis;
  • Energy and curiosity;
  • Communication with brothers;
  • Fearlessness.

Any kitten - thoroughbred, half-breed or mongrel - is able to become the best companion and companion. He will reciprocate on the sincere love and care of the owner. It is not necessary to pursue expensive, fashionable and thoroughbred cats, it is better to bring into the house of a faithful and faithful companion who will not leave in a difficult moment and brighten up the longing of gray everyday life.
