Building a panel house

The boom of frame-panel housing in Russia was provided by several factors:

  • Their widespread prevalence in the West, even in areas where the climate is by no means mild;
  • Low construction and materials costs;
  • Absolute ease of assembly;
  • The panel house does not require a massive foundation, to which, as is known, there is at least a third of the total amount of money spent, and the process of erecting it is very laborious.

The essence of this building is simple: it is a wooden frame, built with boards 4-5 cm thick, and 10-15 cm wide. These planks, fastened together in the form of high quadrangles, are trimmed on both sides with materials of different nature and strength.

The production of panel houses has adopted the following standards: the internal cladding is made with gypsum fiber boards, and the outer side is made of OSB boards, usually 9 mm thick.

Since the principle of building such a dwelling is quite simple, skeleton cottages are very popular and have become widespread.

In our country, the opinion has long been rooted that a sound warm house should have a large wall thickness. However, it is the frame construction that proves that this is far from the case . Modern heaters are able to maximally keep the optimal temperature inside the room. Additional covering materials, such as vapor permeable membranes, windproof insulators, waterproof coatings, help to make such a house quite comfortable for winter residence.

The cost of frame-panel construction is almost one and a half times lower than the wooden one. The cost of heating such housing is several times different.

The peculiarity of the winter execution of these houses is that if the thickness of the walls is usually 10-15 cm, then with the help of external and internal insulation it can be achieved that the panel house will be suitable for living even in severe northern regions.

For example, the climate of Alaska is not at all mild, but there the vast majority of residential buildings are built using wireframe technology.

The choice of insulation in the modern construction business is very wide. In this capacity, both traditional glass wool (and modifications based on it: "Izover", "Knauf", mineral wool boards, etc.), as well as expanded polystyrene (high-density foam), and backfill materials can serve as such.

In the panel houses can be laid any of them. Another question is how much all this is ecological, but there is already a choice for the owner.

Another feature of these houses is that it is recommended to build them in winter. The point here is that in the cold season the quality of wood is much higher. If you start building a panel house traditionally with the beginning of heat, then there will be doubts whether the wood that you have chosen is actually made in winter. For not every manufacturer is ready to store it for six months, despite all the assurances from its side in the opposite.

For internal and external finishing the panel house is exceptionally favorable. Its walls with an even surface allow the use of an absolute majority of modern materials.
