Bright still life - a picture of "Poppies and cornflowers"

I.I. Mashkov - a bright representative of the Russian avant-garde. This complex flow arose at the breaking of a very intensive search for a new language in literature, painting, and theater. And a new language was required to express political and aesthetic changes occurring both in the world as a whole and in Russia in the 10th of the last century. But often these new trends were vague, wanting only to shock the viewer or the reader. If you look at painting, then many brilliant achievements: drawing as a base, tone ratios and much more will be permanently lost. There was a conscious desire to "shake the foundations." How - it does not matter, only the shock was important.

"Jack of Diamonds"

Young artists came to Moscow who could not find themselves in traditional painting, even studying with such brilliant masters as V. Serov. They have gone too far in the way of the destruction of traditions. One of the favorites was a game of color, especially red in combination with cobalt, and as a result, a slap in the face of public taste - too "simple", everything looked rude and primitive. Mashkov in general was not quite a learned artist (Serov expelled him from his studio). Traditionally, the artists of the "Jack of Diamonds" were perceived as the creators of still lifes. One of the examples is the still-life of I.I. Mashkova, a complete picture. Poppies and cornflowers on it create contrasting in volume, shape and color of the spot.

Mashkov. "Still life with poppies and cornflowers"

This is a fairly typical still life of avant-garde artists with a heap of similar objects with the appearance of a poorly decorated table. A tray is an important part of such a still life: it is a background, framing for intentionally "random" items. Two trays - white on the wall and half green, half red - serve only as bright spots and give the picture decorativeness. The artist is simply in love with paint, especially in red, which is confirmed by his picture. Poppies, cherries, apples, peaches - everything sparkles scarlet.

Let's consider a still-life

The first thing that attracts attention is a porcelain vase with wavy edges, filled with red and yellow apples, and a bright red cherry, and a dark juicy cherry.

"Still life with poppies and cornflowers" is often called incorrectly - the picture "Poppies." It would seem that the red large poppies that gave this name should be the center of the composition, towering over it. However, they do not attract much attention, but simply stand quietly in a transparent glass jug and just continue the compositional line of the triangle originally set by the painter. Through the red poppies, the look rests against a white tray on the wall, covered with a dirty green drapery. On the tray, as at the top of the triangle, the gaze stops. It is all the same red and yellow fruit that crosses the blue-black bunch of grapes. Further, bypassing the red poppies, the viewer turns to the right side of the picture, where there is a second tray. His emerald green with a black edging unexpectedly agrees with the cobalt blue table and sprinkled with bright yellow lemons. In general, all the colors "scream". We must assume that they fully expressed the joyful mood of the artist. This is how the picture looks. Poppies and cornflowers, each color as if they try to cry out: "Look here - I'm brighter". And the flowers create another triangle: poppies, a red vase with a ball of blue cornflowers and sunny lemons. So composition is built picture. And the mood - bright, cheerful, summer - creates colors that "shout" each other: red, blue, green, yellow. No complex shades and mixes. It's as simple as on a lubke. This is the picture of Mashkov "Poppies and cornflowers" (more precisely, "Still life with poppies and cornflowers").
