In rare cases, even flamingos were met, which became a sensation for scientists. These birds do not belong to the birds of the Nizhny Novgorod region, they live in other places.

Quite rare here are loons, gray woodpeckers, gyrfalcon. But there are also those who are under threat of extinction. This is a black stork, a golden eagle, an eagle burial ground and a bearded owl. In order to protect these proud and beautiful birds from extinction, special reserves are created where they reproduce.

Black stork

It belongs to the order of the stork. A fairly large bird with a wingspan of about 1.5 meters. Color is noteworthy: the body is dark with a greenish tint, the abdomen is whitish. Young birds have black beak, legs with a green tint.

This beautiful bird is included in the Red Book, because it was almost exterminated. The last two nests that were found in the region were destroyed in the early 1980s. But more recently in the region have found a new nest with a brood of chicks. Black Stork is a secret bird, does not like the community of people. Nests, as a rule, are more often forests, near forest lakes, marshes, rivers.

Golden eagle

This bird belongs to the detachment of hawks. Berkut is recognized as the largest eagle in the world. The length of his body grows to one meter, and the wingspan is more than two meters. These birds of the Nizhny Novgorod region, as a rule, try to stay in pairs near their nest.

The color of the golden eagle is brown, the vertex and posterior zone of the neck has a light-colored color, reddish-golden. The beak is dark brown, with a blue tinge, legs, like all eagles are feathered to the fingers, and fingers yellow. The claw of the back finger comes in a bend up to five centimeters, which you will not find in other birds of prey.

This hunter, like other representatives of the subspecies, has very good eyesight, but only in the daytime. An object the size of a hare, he will see at a distance of a couple of kilometers. The neck of the golden eagle can be rotated 270 degrees, which increases the field of view. "Frowning" superciliary arches protect eyes from bright sunlight.

Golden eagle is included in the Red Book in connection with its mass extermination. Another important factor in the extinction of the species is the use of pesticides by man and his invasion of the wild.

Eagle-burial ground

Birds of the Nizhny Novgorod region - eagle-burial grounds, as well as golden eagles, belong to the family of hawks. The size of his torso is about 85 centimeters, the wingspan is more than two meters. The color is dark brown, almost black. The vertex is lighter. On the humeral parts of the wings there are white spots. Plumage to the very toes, legs yellow.

Some ornithologists suggest that this predator received its name, because researchers often meet it on tree branches near stone and adobe mausoleums. Many experts propose to change the name to a solar eagle or imperial eagle. Another part of ornithologists believes that the bird received its name because it feeds on carrion.

The number of burial eagles is terribly small. The bird is listed in the Red Book all over the world. In connection with the expansion of megacities, there are very few places for nesting at the eagle-burial ground. They are also destroyed every year from power lines. And of course, in the disappearance of this species, poachers are to blame.
