Biometric passports - what is it? How to get a biometric passport

Biometric passports - what is it? Many people have heard about this type of document, but not everyone knows what it is. So, this is a certificate confirming the identity and citizenship of the person to whom it belongs. But if the definition coincides with the characteristic of the ordinary, civil, then what is the essence of the biometric passport?

Key differences

So, before you find out what is necessary in order to get biometric passports in Russia, it's worth telling about the key differences of this document from the generally accepted identity card. So, it contains not only the surname, name, patronymic and information about the marital status and place of residence. Biometric passport, the price of which is higher than that of an ordinary one, differs by an integrated microcircuit. It stores special biometric information. Often this is an image of the iris, fingerprints. This information must contain biometric passports. What is it and what is it for? This is what determines the authenticity of the document. The main difference from a regular passport. It contains information that is not available to its owner, but it can be remotely considered.

How did the idea come about

Biometric passports - what is it and how did they ever appear in our lives? In 2001, the US proposed to start issuing such documents. In 2002 representatives of 188 countries signed the so-called New Orleans agreement, which affirmed that from now on the face biometrics will be the main recognition technology for passports and visas. After this agreement was signed, the United States government also stated that other documents should also become biometric. However, the idea was not perceived equally positively in other countries. Many believe that this is unacceptable and seems to be total control.

External differences

We should talk about what kind of external differences this document has from a common citizens' ordinary passport. First, it stands out with a special logo of the chip, which is printed on the cover. This is necessary in order to be able to identify the electronic passport. It is also worth noting that the first page of the passport is thicker than the ordinary one. It shows the installation data of a citizen and, of course, there is a photo - as in a regular passport. There is also an electronic chip inside the same page that contains a digital photo. It also contains data that is written directly into the passport.

In Russia, such documents are produced at the "Gosznak". To date, he produces two types of passports - foreign and all-Russian.

About advantages

Many people are concerned about how to obtain a biometric passport. However, to begin with, it is worthwhile to talk about the advantages of this document before the usual one. The main advantage is that at some points of border control there is special equipment intended for reading data from a microchip built into the passport. This procedure significantly reduces the time for entering information about a person who must cross the border through the border system. It should be noted that in many countries where there is control of electronic passports, there are separate corridors for people traveling with biometric documents. And for the sake of fairness it is worth noting that in them the queue moves much faster.

Due to the fact that all biometric data of a person are stored in one document, the comparison of the identity with the passport is carried out by automatics. This has its advantages. First, it minimizes the likelihood of the controller making a mistake. Secondly, the identification time is shortened. All this significantly speeds up the entire control process.

In Russian federation

Since 2009, the issuance of biometric passports began in all regions of our country. According to the law, they are called passport and visa documents of a new generation with an electronic information carrier. From these points, the data is sent to the processing and personalization center. If we talk about where to get a biometric passport for trips abroad, it should be noted that such documents are issued only in those overseas institutions that have special software and hardware that are necessary for this.

Since 2010 (from the first of March), biometric passports can be obtained by anyone. They are issued for ten years. Many are interested in what biometric passport can be obtained in Russia. This is a new passport. Among them - civil, official and diplomatic. In addition, it can be a seaman's certificate and some other documents, passports, in fact, are not.

About data security

The first thing to note: the range of reading an electronic chip does not exceed ten centimeters. The second - only with the personal consent of a person to provide their own data, this information can be considered. Consent is that the citizen voluntarily submits his passport to the reader. Only after the information is recognized by the robot, special code will be generated, which requires an access restriction system. After that, the equipment installed in the checkpoint will be able to perform a full reading of the data stored in the memory of the electronic chip.

In general, if a person is very worried about maintaining the security of their data, then one hundred percent guarantee against illegal reading can be obtained by another method. And it's pretty simple. To do this, you need to buy a passport cover with a layer of foil. The principle is simple: a thin metal layer ideally shields the document from electromagnetic waves.

And what about Ukraine?

Three years ago, in 2012, on October 2, Ukraine adopted a law on a single state demographic register. This decree states that a passport of a citizen of a country and a foreign document can be issued electronically, and then the data on the owner will be placed in the Uniform State Register. But only none of the citizens of Ukraine was in a hurry to change the generally accepted identity cards to new ones. Biometric passports - what is it, what are they for, how to get them? Many questions puzzled the Ukrainians. Only in 2015, on January 12, the first few biometric documents were received by citizens of Ukraine. And the government of the country expects that with these passports, soon all residents will cross the borders of the states of the Schengen zone. After all, visas will not be needed for this.

Biometric passport (Ukraine) - how to get the coveted document?

In Russia, this process has been established for a long time. In obtaining documents of a new generation, problems do not arise. But how to get a biometric passport in any Ukrainian city? There, with it, things are not so simple, since they began to be issued only from this year. To begin with, you need to turn to the subdivision of the internal affairs agencies and find out the detailed information there. And so, in order to issue this document, you must have an internal passport with you, as well as an identification code with a certificate from the military commissariat (but this is only for men). Now the queues in OVIRs are very large - many people are puzzled in order to acquire a biometric passport (Ukraine). How to get this document after all the papers are collected and filed? In this there is nothing complicated. It will only be necessary to come for your passport when it is ready. But you just need to know that it takes a little more time to make such a document than it does for an ordinary document.

Document Format

A couple of words I want to say about the photo, which is stored on the chip. To date, photoimage is the main element for identifying the identity of every citizen who presents his document. Moreover, everyone knows that it is defined by the ICAO standard as mandatory. So in the memory chip of the electronic document, it must be sure.

So, this is a flat image in 2D format, always color. It must meet all shooting conditions, pre-regulated. The facial expression is normal, neutral, that is, without facial expressions. The background should be uniform, monophonic, in no case, that other objects were present in the photo. If a person wears glasses - they need to be removed, otherwise there will be glare on the finished image.

A biometric passport, whose price is much larger than that of a conventional one, has recently become popular. To get it, you first need to collect all the documents mentioned and pay the state fee. Adult person (after 18 years old) the passport will cost 2500 rubles. For a child (up to 14) - 1200. This is 2.5 times more than an old-style document. The documents will require a completed application, a photograph, a birth certificate, an old passport of the Russian Federation and a foreign passport. In principle, nothing complicated in this. The biggest difficulty is the long lines. But this barrier is not that big. There are queues everywhere, and we have long been accustomed to this.
