Wonderful flower - wisteria! Planting and care

Wisteria (in Greek means "sweet") or, as it is also called, Wisteria (Wistéria-Lat.) - is a large decorative vine. Refers to the family of legumes.

Wisteria can be found in the United States and East Asia - there are 9 species. However, in decorative gardening only 2 - Chinese and fluffy wisteria are used. Cultivation can take place both in the garden and as a houseplant (this purpose is rarely used). Wisteria is named after Kaspar Wistar (professor of anatomy, America).

Wisteria Chinese (Latin Wisteria chinensis (Sims.) Sweet)

The height of the Chinese wisteria is 20 meters. At the base the thickness of the stem is about 35 cm. Complex leaves with 13 leaves, the length of which is up to 30 cm. The bark is dark gray. The butterfly flowers are light-lilac, their length is 2.5 cm. The flowers are collected in the hands. They can be up to 30 cm in length. Rapidly growing. Begins to bear fruit from 4-5 years.

The first period of flowering in the vine occurs in May. Then there is the second - in August, but not so abundantly blossoms Chinese wisteria. Planting and leaving in the summer time does not require much effort.

Wisteria Chinese comes from China.

Wisteria pyshnotsvetnaya or plentiful (Lat. Wisteria floribunda (WiUd.) DC.)

The height of the fluffy wisteria reaches 8 meters. Complex leaves with 5 leaves, up to 40 cm long. Flowers are purple-blue. Their length reaches 45 cm. They gather in a brush up to 60 cm. Unlike wisteria of Chinese, this kind of liana blooms once.

Wisteria is a gingerbread native from Japan.

In addition to these two species, in Russia other types are common:

"Wisteria is beautiful." Liana up to 10 m high. White flowers collected in a brush up to 20 cm long.

- Wisteria shrubby. Liana up to 12 m high. Small violet-blue flowers.

- Wisteria is Japanese. Liana, with flowers of white color.

Wisteria. Planting and care

It is best to purchase a seedling, which (preferably) has already bloomed 1-2 times.

The soil

Wisteria will feel good in a loose and fertile land. Liana suffers from calcareous and moist soil poorly. If you plant it in such a land, then wisteria can begin chlorosis, the leaves become pale, turn yellow and the plant loses its decorative quality.

In case the place does not fit at all, and wisteria has already been acquired, planting (and care of the liana in the future) can occur on self-prepared soil. In the earthen pit, sand, humus, leaf clayey-sod soil is mixed. The ratio is 1: 1: 1: 3.

Wisteria - care of the creeper

Pruning largely depends on the abundance of flowering. By cutting off excess branches, it is possible to form a tree on the stem, but this miracle will take several years.

Pruning starts in the spring. It is necessary to remove old and frozen shoots, thereby giving the vine a shape.

For winter, wisteria must be covered, so that during severe frosts the plant is not damaged. Young shoots are always untied and laid to the ground. And then cover with dry leaves, agrofiber or coniferous lapnika. You can fall asleep with two buckets of earth.

When such a beautiful and amazing plant, like wisteria, planting and care is carried out correctly, it will gladden you for many years with luxuriant flowering!
