Where dry plaster is used

Until recently, most people, especially those who rarely face repairs in their lives, knew only one type of plaster. Ordinary, it's wet. This material is used everywhere, before it was simply irreplaceable for whitewashing ceilings and walls. The composition is a complex solution using dry mixtures for plaster with the addition of lime, cement, glue or gypsum and water. Unfortunately, this product has its own tangible disadvantages - it can not be applied to some surfaces, for example, walls made of bricks.

Here, dry plaster comes to the rescue. In fact, this is a completely new, simple and very convenient material, which came to replace your brother. Not without reason dry plaster for such a short period has gained wide popularity. The latter is largely due to convenience and ease of use, although this is not its only advantage. At present, dry decorative plaster is considered to be one of the most environmentally friendly and clean facing materials, than it has perfectly proved itself, including as a means for repairing living quarters.

In addition to the nontoxicity tested by the tests, such plaster has good insulating qualities: it muffles the sound and keeps heat. From the point of view of fire safety it is absolutely non-flammable, and also has no smell. The latter should come to the liking of sensitive people who do not tolerate smells of paints, varnishes and all kinds of chemical compounds. Another interesting feature of dry plaster is the ability to absorb and release moisture depending on the content of this in the atmosphere. Therefore, you can often hear that this plaster "breathes".

This material does not require the use of wet mixtures and is best suited for ceilings. It is permissible to conduct absolutely any communication between the surface and the facing sheets.

Dry plaster - what is it?

Another, much more familiar and familiar to many people, the name of this plaster is drywall. It is usually sold in sheets of two to three meters in length and a little more than a meter in width. The thickness of these sheets is small - only about ten millimeters, which makes this decorative material quite easy. At the base of the sheets is a gypsum, which is covered with hard cardboard outside for strength. Economical, if properly used, dry plaster gives, in addition, excellent results.

But if you intend to use this decorative material in the repair of an apartment, you should definitely familiarize yourself with some of its features. First of all, dry plaster is not suitable for use in very damp rooms. The reason for this is the structure of the drywall: its surface can eventually get wet and lose its original presentable appearance. It is here about the constant effect of moisture, while short-term strong interference will not create.

Too high temperatures will also adversely affect the state of the material. Therefore, it is better not to use drywall in rooms where the temperature can reach 45 degrees. Such excess of the regime will dry the plaster sheets too much, causing them to become brittle and short-lived. True, in most apartments air to such marks does not heat up.

Application of dry plaster

When fastening to concrete ceilings, most often you have to make a wooden frame. It is nailed with special nails - dowels. Subsequently, sheets of plasterboard are attached to the rails of this frame. It is important that the width of such slats in the places of plaster joints is more than seven or seven and a half centimeters. This will add additional reliability to the entire structure. Between the sheets should be left a short distance (half a centimeter) for finishing the seams.

But if there is no need for additional heat insulation, you can save the height of the room by attaching dry plaster sheets directly to the ceiling. Here it is necessary to use a special glue composition. It is made from ordinary building gypsum and 2% bone glue. Mastic is applied to the sheet, especially carefully smearing the edges, and pressed against the ceiling. In this case, also leave the distance between the sheets - for seams.
