What mystery did you take to the grave of the Woodpeckers? Expedition, who died in 1959

In early March 1959, the millennial calm of Mount Holat-Syahyl was disturbed by the roar of aircraft engines. In the sky, airplanes and helicopters flew at low altitude. The units of the internal troops combed the snow-covered rocks by squares, together with groups of volunteers-climbers.

The search engines hoped for a miracle. A group of tourists was missing, led by an experienced instructor Dyatlov. The expedition left Sverdlovsk on January 23, according to plan it was to return in 21 days, but all reasonable terms have passed.

The group consisted of nine people, two of them were girls. In addition to them, two more wanted to take part in the campaign, but they did not work out, one suddenly took radiculitis, and the other had to take the institute's "tails". Just the case when there would be no happiness, but misfortune helped.

So, a group of five students and three graduates was headed by the mountain instructor Dyatlov. The expedition planned to climb the peak of Otorten, having made a one-week ski trip. Everything went according to plan, it was established that on February 1 on the slope of Holat-Sahyl, ten kilometers from the goal, the tourists pitched a tent camp.

After a 25-day search, five were found, they were dead. A terrible find did not disclose the cause of their death, but merely added questions. First they found an empty tent, there were things and food in it, and it was cut. Traces led in different directions, showing that the tourists in panic left the place to sleep. The victims were not warm clothes, she remained in the tent.

There was no doubt that the cause of death was hypothermia. Closest of all from the camp lay the body of one of the girls, Zolina Kolmogorova. Two guys managed to build a fire in a half-kilometer, under a large tree, and froze when it went out. Igor Dyatlov was found between this cedar and the tent. The expedition consisted of nine people, the fate of four more was still unknown.

They were found in May, under snow, near Lozva. Unlike previously found corpses, these were severely mutilated, and the second girl lacked language. Great questions arose with forensic experts about the color of the skin of the deceased, it was orange-violet.

All these facts suggested the unusual circumstances of the death of a group of tourists, led by Djatlov. The expedition, according to the conclusion signed by the head of the investigative department Lukin and prosecutor-criminalist Ivanov, was killed as a result of an irresistible elemental force of unknown character. Further investigation has not yielded results.

Extreme tourism is associated with risk. The death of climbers in the mountains always becomes an emergency, but does not cause surprise. After reporting on another tragedy, most people forget about it. The exception is the group, which was headed by Dyatlov. Expedition of 1959 to this day serves as a theme for the most daring and fantastic hypotheses.

There were suggestions of reprisals committed by secret services that eliminated unwanted witnesses, but this version is not very plausible, if only because in this case the picture would be given maximum naturalness.

The involvement of aliens is unlikely, to put it mildly. Serious consideration was given to the possibility of involvement of local residents of the Khanty and Mansi nationalities, who took revenge for the sacred sites deported by tourists. The investigation was moving in this direction, even the reindeer herders were arrested, but no confirmation was found.

Recently, there has been speculation about a sudden exit from the rocks of gas, the effect of which on the body is unpredictable.

Apparently, in the near future, mankind will never know the reliable reason why the expedition of Dyatlov died . Photos made on the slope of Holat-Syahyl in 1959, published in the printed publications of the article on this subject, became a means of interest to the reader. The tragic fate of young people inspires writers to write fantastic novels. Here go the curious ...
