The truth about where the film "Love and Doves" was filmed

The legendary comedy "Love and Doves" was born thanks to a successful creative tandem and careful, loving attitude of the authors to the material. Not the least role in the success of the film was played by the magnificent landscapes, against which the films were made.

How it all began

In 1981, the actor and playwright Vladimir Gurkin created a play that became a favorite of the Soviet scene. At that time, perhaps, there was no theater that did not set or did not dream of putting this simple, warm, funny and lyrical story about Vasya Kuzyakin, his family and the resort passion. In 1984, for work on the material took and the famous film director Vladimir Menchov, already famous for the whole world with the tape "Moscow does not believe in tears," who took an Oscar for the best film in a foreign language. The new picture was no worse than the previous one, it was awarded the international prize "Golden Rook" at the film festival of comedies and also gained national love. Menchov once confessed that he considers his life in the cinema held only because he created this film.

Homeland of Vasya Kuzyakina

His flamboyant play, Vladimir Gurkin wrote, based on real world history, which happened in his hometown of Cheremkhovo, Irkutsk region. Even the author used the real names. According to the work, the action takes place also in the Irkutsk region, only not in Cheremkhovo, but not in Talsk, or in Belsk. The dramatists' townsmen are convinced that it was possible to film the film here, and not at all, where they shot "Love and Doves" in fact. In Cheremkhovo, however, grateful compatriots placed a monument to the unforgettable Kuzyakin, thus perpetuating the dramatic work.

Geography of filming

So, nevertheless, where did the film "Love and Pigeons" be made by the employees of Mosfilm? For the shooting, the city of Medvezhyegorsk was chosen in the Republic of Karelia. Of course, they first looked for nature in Siberia, traveled around the Irkutsk region, visited the shore of Lake Baikal. But Menshov did not like the local landscapes. According to Gurkin, who accompanied the director, the latter was struck by the local unsettledness. And in the picturesque villages, located in the depths of the taiga, there would not be enough power capacity that would withstand the work of the cinema equipment. In addition, the actors who had to visit Moscow in the shooting season, since they were engaged in performances, were far from getting there.

Menshov stopped the choice in Karelia, the favorite place of the domestic filmmakers, if it was necessary to show the harsh and beautiful nature, the expanses of the Russian taiga. In the same place, in Medvezhyegorsk, where the film "Love and Doves" was filmed, in 1977 they made the tape "The Fourth Height" about the legendary Gula the Queen, and in 2006 the film crew of the picture "Hunting for Piranha" arrived here. In one of the interviews the director confessed that the Mosfilm people went to this Karelian town, because in its name it sounded "gorsk" - I wanted to make a movie against the backdrop of hills and hills. We drove through the streets and found!

House on the outskirts

The street brought seekers to the outskirts of the city to the river Kumsa, near which they saw the very house number 12 on the street Lower. The hosts - Elizaveta Petrovna and Neil Konstantinovich Santaylanen - welcomed the capital's guests cordially, agreed to give up their penates for three months for filming. Only the yard, which has been lapped with wooden boards, is not a Karelian, but a Siberian tradition. So I had to negotiate with the owners that in the yard of the house where the film "Love and Pigeons" was shot, the owners allowed to build wooden decks.

Twenty years later, Vladimir Menshov and actor Alexander Mikhailov, who played Vasya, visited these places. Much has changed to the present day - the house was rebuilt after the fire, the dovecote, built specifically for the film, fell, which caused it to be demolished.

Hot passions in the cooled water

But this is not the whole truth about where the film "Love and Doves" was filmed. When it was time to do the scenes of the resort intrigue of the protagonist, the courtyard was already November. The filmmakers went to Batumi, where artists had to bathe in the jelly water - its temperature did not exceed fourteen degrees. The skill of the actors is so great that the viewer did not doubt at all that the heroes from the heart are enjoying the sultry beach rest and the velvet southern night.
