The Palace Bridge in St. Petersburg. How much do you build the Palace Bridge?

The northern capital of our country - the magnificent St. Petersburg - has always been famous for its architectural monuments, luxurious palaces, beautiful fountains and, of course, unique bridges. Thousands of tourists visit this city every year to see with their own eyes the splendor described by the classics of literature.

The Palace Bridge in St. Petersburg connects the city center with Vasilievsky Island. This is a tourist attraction of the city, which is always visited by tourists. For many years, the Palace Bridge, dissolved on the background of the Peter and Paul Fortress, is a visiting card of the northern capital.

A bit of history

In the 1880s, the local authorities of St. Petersburg appealed to the public organizations to replace the outdated Palace scaffold bridge. At that time, the City Council did not immediately address this issue. However, when in the year one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine the plockshots of this bridge were sunk - there was no choice. It was necessary to begin construction.

In the year one thousand nine hundred, the competition for the best project was announced. As a result, the City Duma had to consider twenty-seven options. None of them was approved. Therefore, the next year it was decided to repeat the contest. This time the best project was chosen - it was the work of AP Pshenitsky. Despite this, it was only in the year 1910 that a contract was concluded with the Kolomna factories for the construction of a bridge. The work began a year later. The Palace Bridge in St. Petersburg was commissioned in 1916. It was named after the Winter Palace. It should be noted that it was commissioned without finishing. There were only temporary wooden fences and railings, which were replaced already in Soviet times, in 1939.

Lamps, flooring, railings that can be seen today, were installed in 1970. Since 1918 the bridge was called Republican. However, in 1944, during the hardest time, the former name was returned to him.

Plans for design

Initially, the Palace Bridge in St. Petersburg was conceived as a work of high artistic level, which was supposed to unite artistic ensembles of two different islands into one complex. The first project of the bridge provided for a railing with a complex pattern, eight lanterns with decorative forging, four lantern beacons, as well as sculptural groups. As you know, such a project was not approved by the authorities. It was decided to use a more economical option. But it was not realized. The war began and the bridge was opened unfinished.

Bridge construction

This is a complex structure, consisting of five spans. The central one is bred. It is covered with a three-arched arch. The rest are equipped with through farms. The bridge is bred due to the wings of the central span, which have counterweights. The adjustable bridge mechanism has multi-toned counterweights (2800 tons), large gears - some of them work from the moment the bridge was opened, motors.

Each span that rises weighs about seven hundred tons. Supports are lowered into the water for 25 meters. The Palace Bridge in St. Petersburg has a length of 250 meters, its carriageway is 28 meters.

Project errors

Today, experts believe that the experienced engineer A. P. Pshenitsky, made a clear miscalculation in the design. The bridge half closes such significant historical monuments as the Zoological Museum, the Admiralty, the Spits of the Vasilyevsky Island, and the Kunstkamera. Many experts believe that the Palace Bridge in 2014 looks out of harmony with the panorama of the modern city. Impressive only the wings of the bridge, when he is divorced at night.

Advantages of construction

Despite the heaviness and a certain pomposity of the structure, AP Pshenitsky managed to achieve a striking effect - the bridge seemed to float on the water. Created much later decorative lighting has made it more effective and modern. The palace bridge is included in the register of monuments of culture and history of Russia.

Divorce of the Palace Bridge

Today it is one of the most visited attractions of a magnificent city. Thousands of tourists rush here to be photographed against the backdrop of the Peter and Paul Fortress or the Hermitage. Here you can often hear in different languages the question as to how much the Palace Bridge is bred.

The main action takes place at night. Divorce of the Palace Bridge begins at 1:25 Moscow time. By this time dozens of boats and small boats with tourists wanting to see this fascinating procedure gather here. At this time on the Neva is always crowded. But within ten minutes (1 hour 35 minutes) the river guard boats disperse all spectators on small rivers and canals. After all, it is at this time that large dry cargo traffic begins along the main fairway. At 4:55 pm, traffic on the bridge resumes.

Is a bridge required for reconstruction

According to "Mostotrest," by the year two thousand and eight, the Palace Bridge began to demand major repairs. Despite this, its reconstruction was postponed until the construction of a new bridge across the Serny Island. On September 27, two thousand and nine, the bridge's night divorce was delayed for fifty minutes due to the breakdown of the diverting mechanism. This happened because of the "fatigue of metal" - the last time the bridge was being repaired in the seventies.

Tips for tourists

In 1997, the bridge is equipped with excellent backlighting, so all your photos will be very spectacular. If you stand in front of the Hermitage Museum, then in the span of the divorced bridge you will see the Kunstkamera. And if you stand at the Admiralty, then in the distance you will see the bell tower of the Peter and Paul Fortress.

How to get there

You should go to the station "Vasileostrovskaya", along the Andreevsky Boulevard, go to the Neva. Then turn left and go along the University embankment.

Easier to pass from the metro stations "Nevsky Prospekt" or "Gostiny Dvor". You should move in the direction of reducing the numbering of houses. Since October 2012, traffic on the bridge has been blocked due to major repairs.
