The national flag of Kyrgyzstan: past, present and future

In the eastern part of Central Asia there is a small country with an ancient history and exceptional natural features - Kyrgyzstan or, according to national phonetics, the Republic of Kyrgyzstan. Like every independent state, it has its own coat of arms and the flag of Kyrgyzstan.

Features of Kyrgyzstan

From the west the country borders on the majestic Tien Shan - "heavenly mountains" in translation from the Turkic. Across the eastern border, Kyrgyzstan is a neighbor of China.

The true pearl of Kyrgyzstan is the deep Issyk-Kul, or "hot lake" in Russian translation. Researchers erect the etymology of the name to the word "sacred" lake, it is not without reason that many secrets and legends are associated with it. Remarkable in its way is the state flag of Kyrgyzstan, about the symbolism of which we'll talk.

Soviet past

It should be noted that forty years from the period when Kyrgyzstan was a part of the USSR, the flag of the republic had a completely different appearance. From 1952 to 1992, a red canvas was intersected by a horizontal blue strip with a narrow white ribbon centered. In the upper left corner there was a sickle and a hammer with a five-pointed star above them. This detail was present on all the banners of the Soviet socialist republics.

The modern state flag of Kyrgyzstan: description

The waving sign of the Kyrgyz Republic is a scarlet cloth, on which a golden sun disc flaunts, sprawling around itself forty magnificent rays. The disk divides into four parts a scarlet lattice, dome-like converging in the center, - a conditional image of a tandyk, a hole for air and light at the top of the Kyrgyz yurt. The presence of this detail recalls the nomadic past of the people living on the land of Kyrgyzstan.

The flag of Kyrgyzstan is made in the following sizes: three-fifths of the length is the width of the banner. The proportion of the solar disk to the diameter of its rays is also three to five. The diameter of the tandjuk is equal to half of the shining solar disk along with the rays.

Symbols of the state symbol

After the collapse of the USSR, in March 1992, a creative team of five authors was created, who were instructed to come up with a new flag of Kyrgyzstan. The value of each element should reflect the traditional spiritual values of the people. The presence of a bright red color but the flag is associated with the notion of courage and selflessness as a heroic national ideal. Scarlet was the banner of the noble warrior Manas, the hero of the Kirghiz epic. Gold of the Sun symbolizes abundance and pacification. It does not accidentally have forty rays - this is a sign of the unification of forty tribes, who lived here since ancient times. The image of tanduks has a wide meaning. This is the personification of the whole universe as a single father.

Will it be different?

In 2007, Kyrgyzstan's parliamentarians raised the issue of changing the appearance of the flag because the tyundiok is not depicted correctly. In 2009, one of the presidential candidates proposed a new draft of the state symbol in his election program. In the spring of 2011, the people's representatives created a commission with representatives of civil society and cultural figures to discuss what the new national anthem and flag will be like. Until today, however, this issue has not been resolved, and the flag of Kyrgyzstan remains as long as it was.
