This article describes the antiallergic drug Kestin. Instructions for use refer to the following clinical and pharmacological group: "histamine receptor blockers - H1, antiallergic agents." The drug is taken orally, after which an antiallergic effect develops within an hour. The drug lasts up to two days.

The active substance in the preparation is ebastine. Its content in one tablet is 10/20 mg, in 5 ml of solution - 5 mg. The drug "Kestin" analogs are absent.

The course of treatment is five days, but the action of active metabolites of the drug continues 72 hours after its completion. Sedative and anticholinergic effects are not clearly expressed during treatment with Kestin: the instructions for use do not indicate its effect on the QT interval during ECG, even with doses of 80 mg. With simultaneous intake with food, an increase in the concentration in the blood of carbastine is observed 1.5 - 2 times, which does not affect the clinical properties of the drug.

Among the indications for the administration of the drug "Kestin" the instruction for use calls the following:

  • Rhinitis allergic seasonal / year-round, provoked by such allergens: food, epidermal, medicinal, pollen and others;
  • Urticaria, provoked by the above allergens, as well as the influence of cold, sun and other factors.

Contraindications to the use of this antihistamine drug is hypersensitivity, as well as:

  • Pregnancy / lactation.
  • Age is less than six years.
  • Increased QT-interval, hypokalemia, hepatic / renal failure - is appointed with caution.

During the course, you should stop using alcohol.

With regard to the treatment of pregnant women with antihistamine "Kestin", the instruction for use specifies that it is not recommended because of the lack of investigation of its influence on this category of patients. Also, its effect on the body during lactation and the possibility of penetrating the active ingredient of the drug - ebastin - into the breast milk has not been studied. When elderly patients were admitted, there was no change in pharmacokinetic parameters.

Dosage: The drug is taken once a day. Adult patients and children over 15 years of age are prescribed 1 to 2 tablets. Or 10 to 20 ml of the agent in the form of a syrup. For children aged 12 to 15 years, the dosage is 1 tablet or 10 ml of syrup. The daily dose in this case, if necessary, can be increased to 20 ml. The dose for children from 6 to 12 years - 5 mg per reception (half a pill or syrup - 5 ml).

It is forbidden to exceed the daily dose (10 mg) when the remedy is administered to patients with liver dysfunction. In the case of an overdose of the antihistamine drug described , it is recommended to wash the stomach and observe the victim within 24 hours.

As for the interaction with other Kestin drugs, the instructions for use indicate an undesirable concurrent use with erythromycin, ketoconazole. With the following drugs, no significant interactions were found: "Diazepam", "Theophylline", "Cimetidine", as well as indirect coagulants and ethanol.

With regard to the results of taking Kestin, the reviews are mostly positive. Some patients claim that with the manifestation of a solar allergy (photodermatitis) they are helped only by this remedy. Others specify: this drug allows you to cope with various allergies - including citrus, flower pollen, cat hair.

However, the reviews indicate that this antihistamine drug does not always have the expected effect. This suggests that before taking "Kestin", it is advisable to pass the examination and consult with a specialist.
