The festering eye of a newborn is an occasion for anxiety?

Many mothers ask the question: "We have a newborn baby, his eyes are festering. What should we do? "There can be no discussion here! The festering eye of a newborn is the reason to seek medical help.

A healthy child is born almost sterile. In the first seconds of life, his body encounters a huge flow of bacteria, viruses, allergens, and just different substances. Immunity of the baby actively "learns" the surrounding world, struggles, "learns" and "remembers". But for the same reason in the first months, children are very sensitive to infections.

If parents notice the festering eye of a newborn, then most likely the baby has an inflammation of the eyeball shell - conjunctivitis. This is one of the main reasons why you should consult an ophthalmologist. Every parent should understand this.

Why do the eyes fester in newborns?

The shell of the eyeball - conjunctiva - is constantly washed with a bactericidal tear. In neonates, there is often a clogging of the lacrimal glands with the remains of embryonic tissue (doctors call this condition "dacryocystitis"). Because of a lack of tears, it dries up and becomes vulnerable to germs, the child develops conjunctivitis. In principle, this disease for its own reason can be either purely bacterial or viral, and allergic or autoimmune. But it is the festering eye of a newborn - this is a clear sign of a bacterial infection.

Mom must periodically wash the eyes of their babies, using for this as natural (infusion of chamomile, a decoction of hard brewed tea), and artificial (antibacterial drops, drug "Furacilin") substance. The festering eye of a newborn is easier to prevent than treat. Of course, in terms of relative health, it is better to use the natural remedies listed above. But if conjunctivitis develops, then the use of medications becomes mandatory (of course, after consulting with an ophthalmologist).

How to properly wash a festering eye in a newborn

1. Take a clean gauze swab (from the pharmacy or self-made), apply a solution of the drug "Furacilin" or infusion of chamomile.

2. One gentle movement to draw from the outer edge of the eye to the inner to the bridge of the nose, removing pus.

3. Throw the swab away. If the washing should be repeated, then we use a new cleaner, which we re-wet in the solution.

After washing, antibacterial drops prescribed by a doctor can be dripped.

If after the procedure you notice that the glazik continues to water, then probably the tear duct is blocked. The only thing you can do at home is to massage.

1. Carefully my hands.

2. Moving up and down, massage the corners of the eyes near the bridge of the nose (here there are tear sacks). You need to do 6-10 movements with a certain effort.

3. An indicator of the effectiveness of massage are purulent discharge from the lacrimal glands. They can be removed using the washing described above.

Remember that all these procedures should be performed only after consultation and examination by a children's ophthalmologist. It is possible that the child will need to wash the lacrimal canals. This process is quite serious, because it is carried out only by a specialist. Without this procedure, conducted in a hospital, inflammation will appear again and again.
