The existing denominations of dollar bills and all the most intimate about them

To date, the US dollar is considered a recognized world reserve currency. This currency is so in demand among the states of our planet that some of us even recognized it as the main one. About what kind of bills of dollars are, we'll talk in this article.

Interesting Facts

The exclusive right to issue American money is possessed by the Federal Reserve System, which, in fact, serves as the central bank of the state. Absolutely all the denominations of dollar bills have their own weight of about one gram. In this case, each of them is made from special threads, in which 75% is cotton, and 25% is flax. This combination provides the money with optimum resistance to mechanical and chemical influences, and also protects them from yellowing as a result of long-term use. In addition, there are also special synthetic threads for strengthening each denomination. In order to bring the American banknote in total worthlessness, it will need to be bent more than 4,000 times.

Existing banknotes

Today, the denominations of dollar bills are as follows:

  • One dollar. Perhaps the most mysterious note, because it contains symbols that are associated with the Masons: a pyramid with a truncated top, over which is in the frame of the rays a triangle with an all-seeing eye. It is generally accepted that this sign means strength, endless growth and perfection of the American state. The face of George Washington, who was the head of the country during the period 1789-1797, is printed on the front side of the bill .
  • Two dollars. Contains the image of Thomas Jefferson - state secretary of the period of Washington's rule.
  • Five dollars. Denominations with this denomination first saw the light in 1928. They are decorated with the face of Abraham Lincoln - the sixteenth US president.
  • Ten dollars. The front side of it is decorated with a portrait of Alexander Hamilton - the country's first finance minister.
  • Twenty dollars. They were "captured" by Andrew Jackson - the seventh president of the United States. The reverse side of the note contains the image of the White House.
  • Fifty dollars. On the bills with this nominal value immortalized the face of Ulysses Simpson Grant - the eighteenth US president. There was also a place on the back of the money and the Capitol building.
  • One hundred dollars. They print a portrait of Benjamin Franklin.

Unprintable

There are also denominations of dollar bills that are no longer printed. Among them:

  • 500 dollars. They depict the 25th US President William McKinley, who died at the hands of an anarchist.
  • 1000 dollars. The note is dedicated to Stephen Grover Cleveland - the president, who was able to restore the gold standard of this currency.
  • 5000 dollars. This money depicts James Madison - the author of the foundations of the US Constitution.
  • 10,000 dollars. The note contains a portrait of Salmon Portland Chase - a man who ordered to print on American money the legendary phrase In God We Trust.
  • 100,000 dollars. They depict the face of Thomas Woodrow Wilson - the 28th US president, the author of the Peace Program, which contributed to the restoration of international relations between states after the First World War.

Dislike for "dvushka"

Today, the denominations of dollar bills are quite diverse, but Americans especially feel particularly displeased with the rare two-dollar bills. This is related to the following points:

  • Many years ago, two dollars were worth the services of a prostitute, and therefore the presence of such a bank note could signal his frequent contact with "nocturnal butterflies," which could well deprive the owner of a "two-thousand" career prospects.
  • At a time when it was allowed to buy votes in the election, the payment for this was exactly two dollars. Thus, a person who has a couple of dollars in his wallet could sell his voice.
  • It is still unclear why other denominations of dollar bills were not used on the sweepstakes, but the fact remains that at the races the standard rate was two dollars, and the winner received his winnings also in these bills. As a consequence, a person who owns a bundle of two-dollar notes, gave out a person who plays on the sweepstakes. It is important to remember that gambling was for a long time forbidden, and a person with a high social position did not want to show his involvement in such a thing.

Frequency of replacement of notes

Since all the denominations of US dollar bills are being intensively traded in the society, their replacement occurs on a regular basis. The United States Federal System has determined the life of each note. For example, a one-dollar banknote can survive for about 22 months, five dollars can withstand 16 months of treatment, 10 dollars - 18 months, 20 dollars are calculated for 24 months, and 50 dollars - for 55 months. The most resistant to wear was a hundred dollar bill, which without any problems can withstand 89 months. The largest number of banknotes in circulation is one dollar. According to official figures, in 2009, one-dollar bills were issued 42.3% of the total amount of US dollars.

Bucks and African Americans

All the denominations of the US dollar (which notes exist, it was mentioned above) never contained images of African-American society representatives. Although, for the sake of justice, it should be noted that in the 40s of the 20th century several coins were issued, on which portraits of dark-skinned outstanding personalities (athletes, scientists, politicians) were minted. In addition, the banknotes contain the signatures of four employees of the Treasury of America, who have black skin.
