The Dors group is the best rock band in America in the late sixties of the last century

American rock band "Dors" was established in Los Angeles in 1965. The Doors instantly became popular, it did not even require the usual promotion in such cases. The Dors group, whose photos did not come off the pages of glossy magazines, was the first for a record number of realized "gold" albums, eight of which were sold in a row, which never happened in the history of rock music.

This success is due to the unusual style of performances and unsurpassed talent of the soloist, Jim Morrison. Music The Doors was beautiful, acted hypnotically: who listened to the first song, did not leave until the others sounded. This phenomenon of the "Dors" group was studied by psychologists, but they could not explain the reason for such overpresence.

A bit of history

In the summer of 1965, Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrison met, who were once acquainted. Young people discussed the situation in the American show business and decided to create a rock band. The data from both were not bad, Jim Morrison wrote poetry and composed music, and Ray was already a professional musician at the time. Later they were joined by Densmore John, drummer and backing vocalist. At the same time, guitarist Robbie Krieger was accepted into the band. Group "Dors" did not escape the so-called turnover, the musicians left and returned several times. Only Morrison and Manzarek never doubted the correctness of the choice.

This composition is considered the main one, but besides the main participants, musicians from outside were invited periodically to record discs and conduct concerts. They were bass and rhythm guitarists, keyboardists and virtuosos of the harmonica, without which the blues compositions could not take place.

The "Dors" band differed from similar musical groups in that it did not have its own bass player. For session studio recordings, he was invited, and in concerts the bass guitar was imitated by Ray Manzarek on the keyboard Fender Rhodes Bass. And he did this with one hand, and the other played the main melody on the organ.

Musicians invited to participate in concerts

  • Douglas Luban, bass player, took part in the recording of three studio albums.
  • Angelo Barbera, bass player.
  • Eddie Vedder, solo vocal.

Soloist of the band "Dors"

Jim Morrison, the vocalist, composer, the author of verses to own songs, was born on December, 8th, 1943 in family of sea officer. He is one of the most notable and charismatic musicians of the 20th century. The whole creative life of the singer was associated with the group "Dors", which he himself created together with pianist Ray Manzarek.

According to the Rolling Stone magazine, Morrison is considered the greatest performer of rock music of all time. The history of the musician is a succession of successful projects created by him in collaboration with other members of the Dors group. Philosophical approach to life brought to the work of Jim Morrison that special color, which was absent in the songs of other representatives of rock music of that time. Influenced by the work of Friedrich Nietzsche, Arthur Rimbaud, the work of William Faulkner, William Blake.

Morrison studied at the Faculty of Cinematography in Los Angeles, where he managed to shoot two copyright films, and these works did not concern music, but were full of philosophical reflections. In 1965, after the creation of the Dors group, Jim Morrison devoted himself entirely to rock music. And after only six years, on July 3, 1971, he died from a heroin overdose.

Group "Dors" without Jim Morrison

After the death of the soloist, the other participants tried to continue their creative activity, but they had no success. Songs that have a hypnotic effect on listeners, such as Jim Morrison's Riders On The Storm, were no more. Group "Dors" ceased to exist.

Further projects

In 1978 saw the release of the album "Dors" by An American Prayer, which featured soundtracks for reading Jim Morrison's poems in his own performance. The recitation was combined with the musical-rhythmic accompaniment of other members of the group. The installation was done by a simple imposition method.

This project also had no success, neither commercial nor artistic. Some critics called the album blasphemous. And some people compared it to the cut-off Pablo Picasso's masterpiece, when each of the fragments separately does not represent any value.

In 1979, one of the famous hits of the band "Dors" called The End was included in the film "The Apocalypse" directed by Francis Ford Coppola, which focuses on the war in Vietnam.
