The causes of development and symptoms of pleurisy, as well as the treatment of this disease

Pleurisy is nothing more than an inflammation of the pleura. This term is called a kind of shell, which consists of two sheets (parietal and visceral). It is necessary to ensure the protection of organs located in the chest cavity.

Pleura almost never develops independently. He in most cases arises against the background of existing pathology. One of the most common causes of this ailment are all kinds of lung diseases. In particular, tuberculosis and pneumonia should be noted here. They are the most common causes of the inflammatory process on the pleura. It begins for the reason that pathogenic microorganisms come here from the lung tissue. It is worth noting that the symptoms of pleurisy do not always develop as a result of the defeat of this organ by any pathogenic microorganism. Very often, this disease occurs after a previous chest injury. In addition, pleurisy may occur in the event that the patient has a myocardial infarction, there is pancreatitis or liver abscess.

To date, doctors divide this pathology into two main forms: dry and exudative. In the first case, the symptoms of pleurisy consist mainly of pain, which can be exacerbated when the patient coughs, sneezes, or tilts the torso in the direction of the lesion. The pain is due to irritation of the nerve receptors of the pleural membrane. In addition, there is still some lag in the affected half of the trunk during the act of breathing. Patients with dry pleurisy breathe superficially, since deep breathing can provoke an increase in pain. In addition, this form of the disease is manifested by common symptoms. It's about raising the temperature, headaches and reducing efficiency.

Symptoms of pleurisy of the exudative type are somewhat different. As with the dry form of the disease, the patient has chest pain, fever and other common symptoms. Difference is the swelling of the cervical veins, limitation of mobility and an increase in the chest on the side of the lesion, as well as cyanosis of the skin of the face and neck.

In order to get rid of pleurisy, first you need to treat lung diseases, as well as other pathologies that could be the cause of its development. In this case, the patient is often prescribed antibacterial drugs. In addition, with the exudative type of such an ailment, it is often necessary to perform pleural puncture. This allows to significantly reduce the severity of the symptoms of the disease, as well as use the obtained biomaterial to clarify the diagnosis and the cause of the disease. Such symptoms of pleurisy, as strong pain, should not be ignored. In order to get rid of the pain, patients are prescribed NSAIDs or glucocorticosteroids. In the case of dry pleurisy, the affected half of the chest is bandaged with an elastic bandage.
