Sheremetyevo terminals: how to get there?

Sheremetyevo International Airport is perhaps the most famous Russian airport. It's not just a large landing pad for airplanes, it's a whole city, living its own life. Terminals Sheremetyevo are a clear indicator of the development of architectural thought for many years. Initially, the civilian airport was conceived as a Soviet response to London's Heathrow Airport, which at one time struck Khrushchev's imagination. That is why the architects, designing the airport, embodied all their creative ideas.

Military roots

Long before the passenger terminals of Sheremetyevo arose, a strategic military airport was built near the village of Chashnikov. All its infrastructure was created for military needs. On the territory of the facility was built a small military town, barracks, warehouses with combustible materials, its own factory for the production of concrete and the airfield itself. The runway was significantly strengthened so that heavy strategic long-range missile carriers could land on it.

However, this was not enough for the normal operation of the airport. Soon on its territory, parking spaces for airplanes, command and control posts, covered hangars, radar stations, visual indication systems of the runway and central control point were erected. Already in 1957 the new airport received about 20 long-range strategic bombers. The active operation of the facility began.

Civil history of the airport began after NS. Khrushchev visited the capital of Great Britain. The huge civil airport of Heathrow is the first thing the Soviet leader saw in the UK. N.S. Khrushchev was amazed by this and ordered the construction of an airport that could be compared with English. Its first terminals appeared in 1959. The airport was officially named Sheremetyevo.

The new civilian airport inherited the entire military infrastructure entirely. The Armed Forces of the USSR no longer had any relation to it.

The first full terminal was the Sheremetyevo-1 complex. This structure was built according to a project that corresponds to the architectural spirit of those times. For an unusual design, this complex was popularly called a "glass" by the people.

Structure of the modern airport

Today the airport has grown considerably in size. New Sheremetyevo terminals provide impressive throughput. On the territory of the airport there are terminals:

  • A;
  • AT;
  • FROM;
  • D;
  • E;
  • F.

Initially, all these air terminal complexes were separate constructions, but in 2010, the complexes were restructured and rationalized. The result of the activities was the consolidation of terminals D, E, F into one large complex, which was called the Southern Airport Complex. All terminals were connected by spacious pedestrian galleries.

Terminal E

There are many ways to get to the facility, one of them is aeroexpress to Sheremetyevo. Terminal E has its own stop and is located between two other terminals - D and F. It is quite new, after all it was put into operation in 2010.

This is a modern and technological three-story station complex with a huge capacity, essential for the entire international airport Sheremetyevo. Terminal E accepts aircraft from international and domestic destinations. Transition to terminals D and F is carried out directly without leaving the airport complex. To ensure the availability of all the complexes there is a free domestic bus.

Inconvenient terminal

Any major airport is famous for the fact that some terminals are placed quite inconveniently. It happens that passengers who arrived at the airport 5 hours before departure, as a result, are late for the flight because they could not find their terminal.

The territory of the air terminal complexes is huge. Not surprisingly, passengers have a search query "How to get to Sheremetyevo. Terminal C is one of the most popular. Indeed, the terminal is located inconveniently. Often people do not even realize that they have already reached the airport, but they simply could not find the terminal.

The easiest way to get into it is to use the services of a free bus that runs between terminals. We must not forget that the journey time can take as long as 30 minutes. Always go ahead in advance.

The road by car is not difficult, but it is not at all. If you go along the Leningrad Highway and turn to Sheremetyevskoye - you will immediately see the Sheremetyevo airport designation. Terminal C is located near this turn and is part of the Sheremetyevo-1 complex.

Terminal for wealthy passengers

In order to provide comfort for wealthy passengers Terminal A has been built. It is a highly specialized airport complex intended for business aviation, as well as representatives of public authorities.
