Sergey Romanov. Dynasty of the Romanovs

Grand Duke Sergey Aleksandrovich Romanov, belonging to the Romanov dynasty, was slandered by both revolutionaries and representatives of a high society. He was slandered abroad, but the church remained merciful and gave that person comfort, and he, in turn, used it. But the cruel world continued to pursue him until Sergei Romanov was brutally murdered.

Centuries have passed, but today there are those who continue to slander the prince. But in fact we do not really know much about Sergei Alexandrovich, his nobility and spiritual beauty. Who is he really - Grand Duke Sergei Romanov?

Short biography of Sergei Romanov

The son of Emperor Alexander II was born on April 29, 1857. First he was brought up by the maid of honor AF Tiutchev, and already from seven years this duty was transferred to DS Arsenyev. His teachers saw him as a good man, extraordinarily good.

Until 1884 there were rumors that the Grand Duke had many vices. He was mocked, his supreme society rejected him. Against all this, Prince Sergei Aleksandrovich Romanov found a good remedy-a cold face, unapproachable appearance, excessive severity. Perhaps this is the whole secret of his duality: a strict appearance and a vulnerable soul. Attacks from society have declined in 1884, when Sergei married Elizaveta Fedorovna. It was a truly spiritual marriage, although some considered it completely different.

Politics of Sergey Romanov

After the death of his parents, the young Sergei joined the guard, until 1887 he commanded the royal battalion of the Preobrazhensky regiment, and then the whole regiment as a major general. In 1891 he became Governor-General of Moscow. Already here, Sergei Alexandrovich Romanov becomes an adherent of the autocracy, acting as a cruel conservative. He has a clear conviction that only loyalty to Orthodoxy can save the country.

Having such convictions, Prince Sergei made a lot of enemies. He began to deal with the working question, which was acute at that time for Russia, doing everything to ensure that the working class was better off. Thanks to Sergei people were able to send their complaints to the police. In February 1902, Sergei Romanov organized a working demonstration.

Such a policy aroused dissatisfaction on the part of revolutionaries and capitalists. The latter even achieved liquidation of workers' organizations. The very same Sergey Aleksandrovich Romanov Was an opponent of the revolution, an opponent of constitutional reforms, was against the creation of a people's government in Russia.

Already after "Bloody Sunday" on January 9, 1905, the opposition proclaimed Sergei Aleksandrovich as the culprit of using military force. The Socialist-Revolutionary Party already pronounced the death sentence to Prince Romanov.

January 1, 1905 Sergei Romanov left the post of Governor-General of Moscow and became commander-in-chief of the troops of the Moscow Military District.

The last days of the Grand Duke

Although Sergei Aleksandrovich also resigned, he was dangerous for revolutionaries. He was declared a hunt, so every day he received threatening notices.

On January 9, Prince Romanov moved with his family to the Kremlin, from where every day he went unnoticed to the governor's house. He knew he was being assassinated.

On February 4, Sergei left the gates of the Kremlin and was torn to pieces by the so-called infernal machine, thrown by the terrorist Kaliayev. The remains of the deceased were transported to Alekseevsky Temple of Chudov Monastery. Already on February 10 the deceased sang.

Sergei Romanov died with the realization that his life is in danger, that he was hunted. But with all this he did not react to any persuasion of caution. He was the kind of person that it was impossible to frighten or force to change his beliefs and principles.

Burial of Prince Romanov

Sergei Aleksandrovich Romanov, Grand Duke, was not buried in the Peter and Paul Cathedral in St. Petersburg. His remains were buried in the church, which was built under the Alekseevsky Cathedral of Chudov Monastery. In 1995, the remains were moved to the Novospassky Monastery.

The murder of Prince Romanov was a shock to the monarchical circles of society. Many people defended Sergei Alexandrovich, saying that he was a humane person, did good to ordinary people, without exposing it to the public. It is for this that many loved and respected him.

Appearance of Sergey Romanov

Sergey Romanov was tall, had natural beauty and elegance. But on the people around him he made the impression of a reserved and cold man. Many claimed that he was self-confident and cruel. This opinion is false, because Sergei Alexandrovich was a kind person, he helped people, but secretly from everyone.

Opinions about Sergey Romanov

Many people believed that the Grand Duke played a major role in the fall of the empire. There was an opinion that Sergei was ignorant in matters of command of the troops, flaunting his shortcomings, giving the society an excuse for calumny and slander. But very few people knew that behind the mask of a cold and unemotional man lies a vulnerable and kind soul. Those who knew Sergei Alexandrovich well could say with confidence that he was sensitive and sympathetic, although he had never exhibited his real feelings for show. He put on the mask of the "iron man" thanks to those who ridiculed him so fiercely. And since the man was deeply vulnerable, it caused him considerable pain.

In memory of the Grand Duke Sergei Romanov

A devotee of the Russian Orthodox Church, the Grand Duke was a patron and member of a variety of institutions, ranging from public, scientific and ending charitable. He was chairman of the Historical Museum. The entire Romanov dynasty could be proud of Sergei, as he had great merits before the Church and country. He was the hero of the war with Turkey, the hero of Plevna. But, perhaps, its greatest merit was the strengthening of Orthodoxy in Palestine and throughout the East.

During the twelve years of his governorship, the prince tried to raise the capital. Lost by the influence of other cultures, the significance of sacred places, sights, and the construction of Russia's life with it has not only returned, but also greatly increased.

Sergey Romanov was a truly amazing person who managed to lose faith in God in times of universal debauchery, to show the entire society as an example of his family life, to the end of his days be faithful to his inner convictions and duty. He, who experienced severe moral and personal shocks, ridicule and betrayal, managed not to lose himself.

Atheist propaganda did everything to erase the name of Sergei Romanov from the history of Russia. Many stamps were fabricated, which were imposed on his life. And thank God that today we have the opportunity, reading the archives and looking through original documents, to discover the truth in this complex issue.
