Seat belts - unnecessary precaution or vital necessity?

The fact that while traveling by car, regardless of whether you are a driver or a passenger, you need to fasten your seat belts, know everything. Know, perhaps, even those who have never passed exams for rights. And all because it is a kind of axiom of the rules of the road. However, in practice, we have a very different picture - the rule is often ignored even by law-abiding drivers. Perhaps, the case in the traditional for us "maybe", perhaps in laziness, perhaps, in some other way, but the fact remains that not all and not always are fastened.

Seat belts, as it follows from their name, are designed to prevent unsafe movement of a person in the car after a sudden braking or an accident. Modern designs differ depending on the material from which the belt is made and the number of fixation points. As a rule, they are from 2 to 5.

What is the danger for the driver or passengers of cars, not fastened with belts? Let's give some figures. So, with a head-on collision at a speed of 60 km / h, the impact force is comparable to a person's fall onto a hard surface from a height of more than 10 meters. For comparison - for those who used seat belts, this force is 2-3 times lower. Considering that it is a question of human life, the difference is more than palpable.

The effectiveness of the belts depends on the position of the passenger in the car and the type of accident. In a frontal collision, the use of seat belts reduces the likelihood of a fatal driver's death by a factor of 2, with a side impact of 1.8, with a rollover of the car, by a factor of 5. As a rule, more serious injuries are received by passengers, not the driver. This is due to the fact that the latter notices the danger before and has time to take emergency measures.

It would seem that the figures are eloquent, they need to be fastened. But not everything is so simple. Many car owners and to this day accept bayonets, requiring the use of seat belts while driving. Their arguments are often reduced to the fact that disposing of one's own life is a private matter for everyone. A popular version is also that if a fire arises as a result of an accident, it will be difficult for a person to quickly get out of a burning car. But behind all of these excuses, the usual human factor in the form of laziness and unwillingness to use seat belts is most often hidden.

Children in the car

And what about the smallest passengers and their rights? After all, even those who care about their own safety care for their children. Another stop-factor are rather high fines, which are imposed for driving with a child in a car without appropriate means of security.

Sooner or later, every kid grows out of his car seat, he will need safety belts for children. To date, many different safety devices for small passengers are produced. Children's safety belts are a restraint device that is worn on ordinary belts and increases the area of the load on the body. Such an adapter is very convenient, compact and does not require a change taking into account the growth of the child.
