The girl who attracts the attention of the brother of the Night Watch, is one of the wives of Craster. She's pregnant, which makes her turn to Sam for help. Lily dreams of escaping from her cruel spouse, who can take away her child. Tarley is forced to refuse her help, since for the woman and the child there is no place in the Black Castle.

Samwell Tarley and the girl meet again when the detachment returns from the campaign. During the stop in the house of the Craster, a riot broke out, as a result of which not only the owner himself perishes, but also the Lord Commander Mormont. Lily and Sam flee from the rebellious brothers of the Night Watch. On their way stands a white walker, who is trying to take the child. However, Tarley manages to kill him with the help of a fragment of Dragon Glass, which he found during the campaign. Sam's courage is admired by Lily, the girl falls in love with him.

Departure from the Black Castle

Samwell Tarley leaves the Black Castle, which is prompted by his concern for the safety of Lily and the child. He persuades his friend John Snow, who has already taken the post of lord commander, to let him go to the Old Town in order to become a master (doctor). On the way, Sam calls in his ancestral estate, once again quarrels with his father and steals the family sword "destroyer of hearts", which he considers his own right.

At the end of the sixth season of the Games of Thrones, Samwell and Lily are staying in the Old Town. Spoilers for the seventh season allude to the fact that the hero has to find something important in the library of the Citadel.

Bradley really wanted to embody the image of Sam Tarley, but he did not fully believe that he would be approved.
