Polymer glue: types, advantages, features of application

Polymer glue is a substance capable of fastening the most diverse mounting surfaces. Such bases perfectly resist high humidity, retain their original properties at sharp temperature jumps. Glue on a polymer basis is increasingly becoming the choice of professional masters, because it guarantees excellent results.

What is polymeric glue?

The main purpose of polymer adhesives is the sphere of construction and repair work. Such products are presented in the form of plastic masses, which include polymers, as well as special fixing agents.

The advantage of polymer glue bases is a high level of adhesion and extremely fast grasping of surfaces. The only drawback is relative toxicity. Therefore, when working with such substances, it is recommended to resort to the use of personal protective equipment.

Basic Types

Currently, there are several varieties of polymer glue:

  • For internal works. Such polymer glue is used for decorating interiors, in particular, laying parquet, installing tiles, gypsum boards. A prerequisite for using this basis is the lack of a stable high level of humidity and exposure to aggressive chemicals on the surface.
  • For external cladding. Used for building facades. Suitable for laying mosaic, ceramic materials, fixation of insulating boards. Such polymer adhesive is resistant to weathering, high and low temperatures.
  • Universal - suitable for use in any type of interior and exterior work. The main advantage is the optimal balance between the cost and quality of the surface connection.
  • Mounting adhesive is used to build up chips, glue weighty materials, fixing the overall elements of the facades of buildings. It finds wide application not only in industry, but also in everyday life. The main advantage of mounting polymer bases is increased resistance to external influences: high humidity, chemicals, vibration, impact loads, pressure on the surface.
  • "Liquid nails" - such polymer glue looks like an ideal solution for joining gypsum boards, metal surfaces, glass, ceramics and plastic. Thanks to the presence of synthetic rubber, the substance quickly hardens. Products of this kind have acquired their name, since for a reliable bonding of surfaces, a sufficient application of a substance is sufficient.
  • "Cold welding" - adhesive for polymer clay, glass, plastic, wood and metal. It is used in cases where it is necessary to unseen discreet parts of products.

Preparation of surfaces for bonding

Polymer glue is recommended to be applied on carefully peeled, even surfaces. Otherwise, the consumption of matter per unit area will increase significantly. Moreover, the lining can be glued poorly if the composition is applied to the surface with an uneven layer.

When carrying out work in conditions of high humidity, the base on which the materials will be glued must be primed. Due to this procedure, a film is formed on the surface, which will absorb water from the adhesive base, more reliably connecting the elements of the structure.

Application Features

Most varieties of polymer glue are prone to rapid hardening. The period during which the substance prepared for work can be stored in a container is called its "lifetime". In most cases, the parameter is indicated on the product packaging.

When using polymer glue, one should take into account the fact that when the agent is completely solidified, it should not be tried to dilute it with water again. In this case, the substance can partially lose its original characteristics, so gluing can not be called qualitative.

Store polymeric adhesives at a temperature not lower than 5 and not more than 25 С⁰. In this case, the packaging must be out of reach of direct sunlight. To avoid fire, glue should be placed away from the heaters.

Performance of works

Polymer adhesives are applied to dry surfaces in a thin, even layer. When joining plates from gypsum board or foam polystyrene, the substance is superimposed by a dotted line. The surfaces are densely joined in 3-5 minutes after application of the glue. The time of reliable grasping of polymer bases on the average is of the order of 30-40 minutes.

Manufacturer

Select the polymer adhesive for tiles and work with other materials is recommended, focusing on the manufacturer. From the brand of products depends not only the price, but also its quality and, as a consequence, the reliability of the connection of surfaces.

If we talk about the products of the average price segment, here it is possible to distinguish mainly domestic brands: glue "Moment" polymer, Litokol, Master, Artelit, Front. At the same time, polymeric adhesives of such brands as Ceresit, Polimin, Knauf, Thomsit, Anserglob are the most prestigious in the market.

Regardless of the choice of the manufacturer, it is important to adhere to the technology of bonding surfaces. In this case, almost any polymer glue is able to prove itself as a highly effective agent.
