Pokrovsky temple in Yasenevo: history, photo, address

In 2001, Moscow's public and Orthodox activists decided to create a large and spacious temple in Yasenevo, one of the districts of the capital. The reasons for this decision were the following: the need to satisfy the growing need of Muscovites in religious centers that meet their spiritual needs, and the request of family members of deceased servicemen and law enforcement officers to erect a memorial temple to all those who lost their lives in armed conflicts in recent years.

To implement this project, the capital administration allocated a territory adjacent to Aivazovsky Street. Registration of documents and pre-project approvals took about five years. At the same time, funds were collected for the work. Everyone who wanted could make available to him the amount on the so-called nominal brick. In this case, the donor received an appropriate certificate, and his name was indicated on one of the bricks used during the masonry. In addition, the names of philanthropists were added to the special memorial list.

The day of September 28, 2008, when the Pokrovsky Temple in Yasenevo was solemnly laid, became a real holiday for many zealots of faith. In honor of this significant event, a solemn prayer service was held, accompanied by the procession of the Cross, participants included not only the future parishioners of the church, but also numerous guests from all over Orthodox Moscow.

Ancient and solemn ritual

The first Divine Liturgy in the temple that was still under construction took place on Easter Day, April 19, 2009. By this time, the builders had only succeeded in casting the monolithic slab of the foundation of the future structure, as well as the concrete walls and the upper floors of the basement floor. However, temporary discomfort did not spoil the holiday, and the good news of the Resurrection of Christ still filled with joy the hearts of believers.

At the end of June, the Patriarch dedicated to the founding of the temple visited the Pokrovsky temple under construction in Yasenev. This was accompanied by prayer service, as well as reading the Gospel and the special prayers that are usually offered at the beginning of construction. According to an ancient custom, in the base of the altar wall was enclosed a letter packed in a special capsule, in which the Patriarch personally signed the fact of the performance of this sacred rite. Construction and finishing work continued until 2015. At the end of December, the illumination of the Intercession Church in Yasenevo was completed.

Architectural features of the temple

Pokrovsky temple in Yasenevo is made in the traditions of the Byzantine temple architecture of the 12th century. In accordance with its canons, the entire interior space of the building is decorated. This was especially evident in the design of the walls, reproducing the most striking examples of the Byzantine mosaic.

According to its arrangement, the Intercession Church in Yasenevo is five-domed, four-pillared. In two of its chapters are placed belfries. The main entrance is on the west side, but the entrance porches are on three sides. The total height of the building is thirty-six meters, and its base part, built into the relief, is four and a half. In it is a baptismal temple. It was in this room that the first liturgy was celebrated on the memorable Easter Night of 2009. On the north side of the temple are the premises of the Sunday school, a bookshop and a conference hall.

The lower church of baptism deserves special attention. Completed, like the whole complex of the temple, in Byzantine style, it is equipped with a marble baptistery located in the center, which corresponds to its direct purpose. The rest of the church space is an architectural composition, called "Icon of the Holy Land"

It consists in the fact that in the basement of the temple on a comparatively small area are placed imitations of the five main shrines of the Christian world: the Holy Sepulcher, the Stone of the Anointing, the Tomb of the Mother of God, Calvary and the Star of Bethlehem. This project has a great spiritual and educational potential. It must be said that the Intercession Church in Yasenevo is not the first place where such an idea has found its embodiment. At one time, Patriarch Nikon had already realized it in the New Jerusalem Monastery. However, not every Muscovite is able to make a pilgrimage to him.

A miracle revealed through prayers

The new church became a reality thanks to the prayers of parishioners and the help of voluntary donors, which revives the pre-revolutionary tradition of church patronage. It was on their funds that the Intercession Cathedral was built in Yasenevo. Miracles, which are holy icons, are performed only where people turn to the Lord with all the depth of faith. It was such a miraculous miracle that the creation of this new parish began.

How to get there, it's easy to tell every Muscovite, because he is located in one of the most densely populated areas. For this it is enough, having risen from the metro station at Yasenevo station, to pass three stops by bus No. 264 to Aivazovsky Street, 7/9.

The schedule of the service in the Intercession Church in Yasenevo is somewhat different from the schedule of services in other churches. Here on weekdays, Matins and Liturgy begin at 7:30, and Vespers at 6:00 pm. On Sundays and holidays, the early liturgy is served at 6:40, late at 8:40, the evening worship begins at 5:00 pm.
