The history of the monastery

Many monasteries in the territory of the former USSR were based on a place of the old, closed by the Soviet authorities. But in the village of Terevenich no monastery existed before the October Revolution. Here there was only a parish church dedicated to the Assumption of Our Lady. Naturally, it was destroyed by the new power. What is interesting about the Tervenichesky Monastery? The fact that it was formed much later than the community that inhabits it. Sisterhood was formed in the last years of the USSR in the church of Faith, Hope, Lyubov and Sofia, which was located in Leningrad. And in the summer of 1991, women who chose religious life began to search for a place for the future monastery. They visited the village of Tervenichi, which belongs to the Lodeinopolsky district of the Leningrad region. The sisters liked the place around the ruined Assumption Church. The confessor of the community, Hieromonk Lukian, interceded before the Metropolitan of St. Petersburg and Ladoga Ioann (Snychev) about the establishment of a new monastery. And he received permission to found a monastery dedicated to the Protection of the Holy Virgin. The monastery was attributed to the Tikhvin diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Ternvenichesky female monastery: description

It took years to build churches, chapels and rooms with cells. Only on April 17, 1997 the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church decided to grant the sisterhood the status of a monastery monastery. The villagers broke their own garden, built a cattle-breeding farm for the production of dairy products, they work in the sewing and icon painting workshops. Temples of the monastery

Through the efforts of the sisters, the cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin was nano-constructed. In this church, in its lower tier, there is a "cave" temple in honor of the saints of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. The abandoned village cemetery was put in order, and a chapel dedicated to Christ's Resurrection was built on it. Even the cattle in the monastery are under the protection of God. On the farm of the monastery stands a chapel dedicated to St. George the Victorious. When the monastery was built by the sisters, a source was found, which they call a saint. A chapel of the Life-Giving Trinity was also erected over the spring.
