Nokia 6310i: description, features

The Nokia 6310i is an improved version of the Nokia 6310, developed by the Finnish company of the same name. Therefore, we will not make a full review of the device today, but let's talk about what in one or another light allocates an improved version in comparison with the base one. By the way, immediately note that the device has a "brother". This is the Nokia 6310i Mercedes Benz, which is distinguished by the corresponding external designations.

What got the updated version?

The device is equipped with the ability to work with an additional range. More specifically, it's GSM 1900. Thus, the Nokia 6310i E220 phone instantly transforms both physically and psychologically into a business class device. In fact, the integration of chips to work with the new range means that the use of "Nokia" will be possible not only in Europe, but also in the United States of America. On the other hand, a similar function was added to many devices before the release of the 6310i version. But what is associated with this delay in the integration of the updated functional part is a completely different story.

Do we notice the backlighting?

Definitely. And it's not easy to notice: this improvement is simply evident to all those who were familiar with the previous model, that is, "Nokia 6310". Here, by the way, it is soft blue. Only the screen is highlighted, but this is enough to appreciate the innovation. Such modernization by many experts in the field of mobile technology was characterized as positive, since it became much more convenient to read the text from the display. And although a large proportion of the intensity falls on this functional part, the backlight also extends to the keys, and to a lesser extent. That, in principle, can not but rejoice.

What influenced the decision of the developers?

Nokia 6310i, the photo of which you can see in this article, is a direct continuation of the basic model 6310. As mentioned earlier, this is a modernized variation with introduced innovations. So you can only logically guess that here engineers and designers decided to learn from their mistakes, which they allowed in the design and manufacture of the basic apparatus. There, if someone remembers, the letters as separate symbols were perceived very badly. They almost merged, forming one incomprehensible word. But what has remained unchanged is the shape of the keys and their sizes, as well as the options for coloring and outline of the case. All this is, so to speak, an inheritance from its predecessor.

Main Change

This "title", perhaps, can be given to innovations applied to the engineering menu of the phone. Rather, not to it as a whole, namely to a section called "Applications", or in English Application. Here we can see a couple of pre-installed Java applications. They demonstrate what new technologies are capable of, embedded in the hardware platform of the device.

More about the programs

The first of these is Nokia Converter. With its help, you can translate numerical values between systems of measures. Well, for example, you know how much in the street degrees on the Celsius scale. And you need to know the answer in Fahrenheit. To do this, you can use a program called "Nokia Converter". Actually, it is designed for different groups. This is the mass, and length, and much more.

The second program is called World Clock. If you translate into Russian, it's "World Clock". Let's agree that we will call it the system utility on the Java platform. It allows you to find out how much time is currently at any point of the globe. Rather, only large cities are counted. Nevertheless, sometimes the program can bring a noticeable benefit. It can be used very simply, although for the incorporated functionality, certain conformities are observed. But we do not need more than that.

Upgradeable

You can always update your applications in Java format. To do this, you only need to establish a connection through the WAP standard. To do this, you need to take care of collecting relevant information in advance. More specifically, check to see if the available version matches the one on your phone. If the programs are not needed at all, then you can uninstall them. Although with regard to memory, you need to be careful. The device provides only 140 KB. This volume is enough for a two-minute recording on the recorder. This is so that the reader simply imagined the scale of the problem.

Problems with the software

This item has not gone anywhere. As they suffered the predecessor model of our today's review, so does she, in fact, herself. Java-applications are loaded for a fairly long time even by those temporary measures. For example, to fully deploy the "Nokia Converter", you should wait for about ten seconds. For such a relatively simple application, such indicators are, rather, too high. Here the engineers were too lazy to do anything, probably. To find out an unambiguous answer to this question, one could conduct a test between "Nokia" and its direct competitor "Siemens". However, the functional part of the programs on these two devices is different, which, unfortunately, fundamentally crosses out the possibility of carrying out a comparative analysis due to inequalities.

And if you try to open the game?

The impossibility of comparing similar programs on these two devices did not stop the experts, who decided to go to the end in their desire to find out which of the phones would benefit from this parameter. You can say that they deliberately decided to play along with "Nokii", launching a "heavy" game on "Siemens". But the results were as impressive as they were unexpected. It turned out that even in this case, the latter is ahead of the object of our today's review for a couple of seconds. This once again confirmed the conjecture that the engineers either could not, or did not want (which seems more likely) to optimize Java applications on "Nokia."

Nokia 6310i: features and settings

The device was developed and released in 2002. Operates in three GSM bands. As a source of autonomous operation, a lithium polymer-type battery is built in. It is designed for a capacity of 1100 milliamps per hour. In standby mode, the device will be able to "live" up to 410 hours. The battery, by the way, is charged from 0 to 100 percent in just one hour. The form factor is classical, there are no surprises. We already mentioned memory, it's only 160 kilobytes. Not so hot, of course. The input for charging is classic, there is no need to talk about USB.

Verdict

In general, to characterize the device as something worthwhile is unlikely to work. Yes, and exchange the basic model for the improved is hardly worth it. There are, of course, a couple of pleasant innovations that you can appreciate, but no more. Globally, almost nothing has changed, and to overpay in a new way for improvements in the part of the screen (and we are talking about lighting) seems at least illogical.
