Mahogany: properties and applications
The market has a lot of products made of rocks called mahogany. They are often quite expensive. However, only a small number of them have excellent operational characteristics of this mahogany - the breed of the family of the Meliev family.
In the first few decades of the twentieth century, the mahogany was practically cut down. However, in the middle of the century, artificial plantations of mahogany were laid on a number of tropical islands of the Caribbean region. In addition, the British this breed was transported to India and to the island of Sri Lanka.
In addition to American, there are African species of trees of the same breed as mahogany. Two types of such plants are common on this continent. The first of these is the genus Kaya. These are evergreen trees growing in Madagascar and the islands of Cape Verde.
Another African family of the Meliev family is called Entadrophragma. Such varieties as sipo, saple and casino belong to it. Just like kaya, these are very large trees - up to 45 cm in height and up to 2 m in diameter at the bottom of the trunk.
The array of mahogany wood is used for finishing rooms and facing various kinds of structural elements (walls, doors, floor). Often this breed is used for the manufacture of various kinds of decorative interior items: figurines, masks, caskets. This wood is so valuable that not every master decides to take up the manufacture of this material, say, the same closet. Its main advantage lies in the ability to maintain its shape over the years. Such furniture is fabulously expensive.
In Russia, a real mahogany, photos of which can be seen a little higher, is almost impossible to meet on the market. In most cases, the maximum that our consumers can count on is a chest-grade variety, which is also called sugar. It is a yellowish-orange rock with a pleasant smell for humans, which is disastrous for insects.
