Linear perspective in the work of the photo-graph

The linear perspective takes a huge place in the process of creating literate, professional photography. We must not forget that the world that surrounds us is three-dimensional, and a two-dimensional photograph must create a sense of volume in order for the picture to be perceived as a correct and natural image of it. This is why photography is so important in creating perspectives that help to achieve its three-dimensional perception.

How our eyes are arranged

All the methods that allow you to display the perspective in the photographs are based on the properties of the person's vision. Therefore, it is not so difficult to understand and master them. The photographer needs to constantly train his / her view, make it "photographic", so that he always remembers the perspective in the process of shooting.

The further, the less

The basic and most understandable law, for the explanation of which the perspective in photography is used, indicates that any objects always look less and less as they are removed. To master its application, you just need to choose a place of shooting with repeating objects: rows of poles, trees or a long fence.

In order for the linear perspective to be as clearly visible as possible in the image, it is necessary to approach the object from the series as close as possible, so that in the photograph it seemed simply enormous. Then the sizes of the remaining objects of the repeating series will decrease very significantly, and this will create a strong sense of the depth of the frame.

Linear perspective as lines

Another way to create perspective is to use lines that go to the depth of the image, transferring the volume of the image. This method is perfectly illustrated by objects forming two or more lines converging in the distance, such as a railway or a multi-lane freeway. To enhance this method of photography, you should choose the lowest possible photo point. From it, the lines will look wider and sharply rush into the interior of the frame to the point of descent.

Relations of different sizes

One of the best ways to display a linear perspective is to include objects of different sizes in a snapshot. For example, if people at the foot of the mountain seem to be tiny in the photo, then the enormity and grandeur of this mountain immediately becomes clear. In the same way, trees, animals, machines or other objects are used, the relative dimensions of which are very different compared to each other, the mountains or other areas of the landscape.

Diversity

The linear perspective in real life is perceived by the distance between objects. It is not possible to use this in photography because of its two-dimensionality. However, to simulate the volume in a photo, you can use different plans, thereby emphasizing which object is closer, and which is next.

Photographic equipment for perspective display

In addition to working with the composition, the linear perspective is enhanced by the use of wide-angle lenses, which increase the relative size of objects and display foreground objects larger than usual. When using a telephoto lens, subjects on photographs, on the other hand, have the same relationship as in reality.

Using Depth of Field

The linear perspective, which is displayed by repeating multiple objects, can be enhanced if you apply a shallow depth of field when shooting . In order to achieve this, a diaphragm from 2.8 to 4 is selected and focuses on any object in the sequence. This allows you to significantly increase the amount of photography.

Shooting points

Many inexperienced photographers are constantly removed from the eye level, without even realizing that they are losing a lot. If you lie down, sit down or shoot from another low level, the linear perspective of the photo can change very much.

Other types of perspective

The perspective on the photograph can also be represented by transitions of color shades that often appear between different plans and add an additional volume. This method is very useful to apply in landscapes, so that they do not seem flat. There is also an air perspective, which is displayed by reducing the clarity of objects disappearing in airborne or air-dust haze.

Practice and again practice

The most important thing is that it will learn how to apply the techniques outlined here in the process of shooting. No photo help will be able to bring as much benefit as everyday practice.
