Lathe chisel: varieties

The cutter is such a one-blade tool, the purpose of which is to process various parts on lathes. When used, it can perform either rotational or translational motion. This is one of the most famous tools used in turning, carousel, slotting, boring and many other machines, as well as on automatic lathes and semiautomatic machines. The turning tool, depending on the type of machine, type of work, is divided into different types in shape, size, design. The tool is used for manufacturing parts from the workpiece with different surfaces (end, cylindrical, shaped, conical) by translational movement of the blade or rotation of the material.

The tool is used for working on various lathes, which, in turn, are divided into two types: for processing wood and metal. In the first case it is presented in the form of a chisel, differing in shape, width. Turning tools for metal consist of two parts: the head (working part) and the holder (the body, which is fixed in the stationary holder of the machine). The working part consists of the tip of the blade, the front, main and auxiliary rear surfaces, the main and minor cutting edges.

By type of processing, turning tools are divided into the following types:

- through (for external turning of parts);

- slotted or grooving (for grooving the required width on the inner and outer surfaces);

- scoring (for turning benches);

- boring (for processing holes);

- Cut-off (for trimming the workpiece);

- Piece-shaped (for inner and outer chamfers);

- shaped (for processing parts of complex shape).

It is worth noting that this is not all varieties of turning incisors, only the most common ones are considered here. There is a wide variety of these tools that differ in their purpose.

In the shape of the section of the blade, the turning cutter is divided into square, rectangular and round, and according to the design of the heads it is straight, curved, bent and with a protruding head.

In the direction of feed, the tools are divided into right (motion from right to left) and left (motion vice versa). According to the nature of the processing, we distinguish roughing, finishing and semi-finished blade types.

By the method of fastening the cutting part, the turning cutter is divided into a one-piece, made of one piece of metal, and a composite cutter, the holder and head of which is made of different materials. The second kind, in turn, is divided into welded, with a mechanical or soldered plate. For the manufacture of the blade, special materials are used, characterized by high strength, reliability and durability. They provide high-quality processing of parts.
