"Language before Kiev will bring": the meaning and meaning of the saying

Many of us from the very childhood hear the phrase "The language will bring Kiev to Kiev". The meaning of metaphor is not always obvious. It is for those who are not yet clear how the language and Kiev are connected, our article is intended.

It was a long time ago, before the Google era

Earlier, when geographic maps were not at all, and people somehow managed without the Internet, there was no other way to find out the way, as soon as ask passers-by. And so a person could get to Kiev. Now, however, everything you want (and you do not even want), you can learn from "Google" or "Yandex," and if you're planning to travel around our little globe, it is better to know at least your native language and English. In other words, the proverb "language before Kiev will bring" is actual and now. But it's not enough just to clarify the meaning of the saying, you also need to understand what kind of life it can expect in modern reality. To accomplish the task, we turn to cinema and literature.

Francis Ford Coppola and his Oscars

Before talking about Vito Corleone, let's tell a short story about a masterpiece by Francis Ford Coppola. She was told in an interview on the radio by Vasily Gorchakov (translator from the English language of films in the 90s). He personally knows the master.

So, the cult American director hates all his soul's great creature, because it overshadows all the other pictures of his painting with a huge shadow. And one day Coppola, in a fit of anger, even broke all the Oscars he received for The Godfather, and told his mother to throw out all this garbage immediately! Francis's mother did it in her own way: she went to the film academy and said that an accident had happened, and could the officials replace the broken Oscars? They said: "No problem." When the storm in Coppola's house settled, the figurines took their former place.

Don Corleone and his version of the Russian proverb

For the viewer, of course, all the same, the "Godfather" remains an unrivaled masterpiece. And now we return to the saying "the language will lead to Kiev". Its meaning (and the aphorism itself) was unlikely to have been known to Don Corleone, but he could have benefited from it.

Fans of the film and those who heard about it, know some formula adopted by Don Vito in dealing with people. If the Godfather has a mood and desire, he can do something for the applicant, but in return, he undertakes to repay the debt if necessary: "One day, maybe this day never comes, I will ask you to do me a favor ..." ". This day usually comes.

The subtlety of such relationships is that they have a purely gentlemanly (oral) character. Therefore, in the case of Don Carleone, the phraseology "language before Kiev will bring" is valid. The head of the clan of the Italian mafia relies entirely on "language". The conditional agreements are the entire system of relations in a criminal syndicate.

Zhvanetsky and Russian proverb

Mikhal Mikhalych has a wonderful phrase: "How many friends under socialism, so much money is needed under capitalism." And it is true, if when the proverb "the language reaches Kiev" could acquire the value of another, than the primordial, it was only in the Soviet era. Then, when things were not bought, but only "got". At that time "language" (acquaintance) meant a lot, but today we need money equivalent to that number of friends. It's not for nothing that the proverb "do not have a hundred rubles, but have a hundred friends" was on a wide scale in the Soviet period of Russian history.

Nowadays best friends are money. They open all doors, solve almost any problems, except, perhaps, the fourth stage of cancer. In this case, no financial injections help, as a rule. Nature thus delicately hints at the person: "You are rich or poor, but still obey the biological laws, so do not lift up your nose."

But for those who still have little money, the saying "the language will bring Kiev to Kiev" (its meaning) also remains relevant, because this rich man can call for money, and the poor only have to stick together.
