John Cryer - star of the sitcom "Two and a half people"

At the beginning of the two thousandth the CBS management decided to launch a new comedy TV series about the life of two bachelors and one child. Choosing candidates for the main roles, they at first questioned whether it was worthwhile to take in the sitcom an already well-known actor at that time named John Cryer, since the last few years all projects with his participation had failed. However, they risked and did not regret, since it was John who not only became the lucky talisman of this TV show, but also managed to bring the series several prestigious awards.

early years

John Cryer is from a hereditary acting family. His father Donald was a good actor, and mother Gretchen was not only an actress, but also a famous singer and songwriter.

The future Emmy owner was born in New York in the mid-sixties. In addition to him, the family had two more daughters. When the boy turned twelve, he announced to his family that he plans to continue the family tradition and dreams about acting career. Ironically, the parents were not very happy with the choice of their offspring, but they supported him, and after graduation, the young Cryer went to London to study dramatic art at the Royal Academy.

Carier start

Possessing a discreet but rather pleasant appearance, as well as a moving facial expression, John Cryer managed to attract the directors' attention quite quickly. So, the guy has not yet turned twenty years old, as he received the lead role in the comic comedy No small affair (in Russian the title of this film is translated differently - "Not a Little Deed" and "Serious Love"). After a successful debut in the following year, there were already two films with his participation. And with the eighty-sixth year, John Cryer begins to participate in television shows.

First successes

In the same year on the screens appeared the famous film "The Girl in the Pink", which made the young actor the idol of thousands of teenage girls. Fans did not give a pass to a novice actor, called his home and sent mountains of letters.

The next significant, albeit secondary, was the role of Lex Luthor's nephew - Lenny - in the fourth film about the adventures of Superman.

Over the next few years, John Cryer has appeared in several other films, but they were no longer as popular as his earlier works.

Trying to succeed on television, John gets a major role in the TV series "The Famous Teddy Zee." However, this project did not gain recognition from either viewers or critics, so after one season it was closed.

The film "Hotheads"

John Cryer could not have become a star, had he allowed the failure of the series to break himself. So, next year after its closing the comedy-parody of the sensational film "The Best Shooter" - "Hotheads" is released on the screens. In this film, John got a minor, but very memorable role - Jim "Fugitive" Faffenbach, suffering from strabismus. Having played this character, Cryer was able to show his comic talent in all its glory. In addition, on set, the actor met Charlie Sheen, who starred in the film.

Noteworthy is the fact that the name of the character Shina-Topper Harley - became an anagram of the future surname of the main characters of the sitcom "Two and a half people" - Harper.

Participation in the project "Two and a half people"

John Cryer once again achieved success and worldwide fame only twelve years after the release of "Hotheads." Although all these years, he often acted in various films, but the directors were not very in a hurry to give him the main roles. In addition, John often played in the television series as a guest star, and also produced some of them.

John Cryer also voiced several characters of animated series, and on top of all the actor wrote the script and became the producer of the film "I went to Connie Island on assignment from God ... back to five." This project was very much liked by critics, unfortunately, in high-grade hire it has not got.

Failures in his career almost pursued the actor all this time. Most of the sitcoms in which he got the permanent roles were a failure. Despite persistence, John Cryer (whose films comprehended the fate of most serials) lost faith in himself and for three years left the profession.

However, when in 2003 the CBS leadership began to prepare for the shooting of the new sitcom with Charlie Sheen in the lead role, they invited John Criever, his brother-loser, who had already worked with Shin before. Making a bet on an actor who, because of the fame of the loser, many have long ago written off, management has not lost, because he became a decoration of the project, and the series "Two and a half people" received international fame.

Perhaps the actor was so good at the image of the loser Alan Harper played in the sitcom, because he himself experienced something similar and knew from his own experience how it was to lose everything and his dream, to be of no use to anyone, in the backyard of life. This epoch-making role in his life brought the actor two Emmy Awards and returned him the trust of the directors. Working on the series, he also appeared in parallel in other TV shows, as well as in several films. Now he is in demand again, directors and producers are in the queue to be shot in their films. So, it seems that the band of bad luck in his life and career ended.

Personal life of the actor

Like his character, John is married twice, but his second marriage was strong, and the couple still live soul to soul.

The first time Cryer went to the altar in the late nineties. His choice was the English actress Sarah Trigger. Unfortunately, this alliance was short-lived, and after five years the couple broke up. From this marriage, the actor has Charlie's son.

His current wife, Lisa Joyner, John met a little later. As a journalist, she was once asked to interview a star from a popular TV series. Arriving at the meeting, the girl did not even suspect what all this will turn out for her and that her future husband will be the famous John Cryer. His personal life at that time was nothing special, despite world-wide fame. However, some time after getting acquainted with the charming journalist, John announced at one of the TV shows about the upcoming wedding.

After the wedding, the happy couple adopted a girl named Daisy. It is worth noting that Liza herself was also adopted and only in adulthood she was able to get to know her real parents. In addition, Mrs. John Cryer also has a small acting experience. At the dawn of her reporter career, she starred in episodic roles in several television projects.

In the life of any creative person, there are ups and downs. But most often talented people are pursuing failures that can break and force to give up their dreams and vocations. John Cryer is not like that. After experiencing an early and rather fleeting success, he was doomed to failure for more than a decade. However, he surrendered and was able not only to return to the profession, but also to achieve world-wide fame, proving once again the good old truth: "The road will be mastered by the going".
