If the monitor does not turn on

Employees of service centers often ask a question about why the monitor does not turn on. Most often the situation is as follows: a person presses the power button of the system unit, the cooling fans start to work, and the screen of the monitor remains black. In addition, the work indication LED may flash , as if in standby mode. In this situation, you do not have to panic and, having built a chain of logical conclusions "the monitor does not turn on - it means it is broken," to carry it to the repair shop under warranty. The workshop will not go anywhere, but to blush before the workers, with your own eyes, watching how a "broken" monitor perfectly fits with another computer, perhaps it will be necessary. You must first check everything yourself and only then decide how to proceed.

If the monitor does not turn on, one of the most probable causes is problems in the "motherboard - video card - image output device" section. They should be checked first. Every computer owner knows that when the power is turned on, his silicon friend emits a joyful squeak with an internal speaker. This sound symbolizes the successful passage of all self-tests. Its absence may indicate a malfunction of the motherboard or the CPU. But if instead of a single "beep" a series of intermittent sounds is being issued, this indicates problems with other components - memory, controllers, a video card. "Symptoms", when the monitor does not turn on and sound "beep-beep ...", are highly likely to indicate a problem with the video adapter. It is necessary to turn off the power, remove the cover of the system unit, unscrew the monitor cable from the card connector, unscrew the fixing screw and carefully remove it from the connector. Then use a clerical grater to clean the comb of copper contacts on it and assemble it in the reverse order. Particular attention should be paid to the uniformity of the approach of sliding contacts into the connector, since the problem "the monitor does not turn on" is sometimes caused by a violation of their contact.

But if the squeaking sounds when turned on as usual, but the screen does not display anything, then the range of possible causes is narrowed. It is possible that the video adapter unit responsible for the transfer of the image failed. And since the processor itself is functional, the self-test is successful. In this case, you will have to check the monitor with another card (on another computer). But before doing this, you must do the following:

- make sure that the card-monitor cable is nowhere damaged, and in the connectors is fixed securely with the provided screws;

- the LED of the monitor is lit. If it does not light, check the power supply (plug, power cord) and turn it on by pressing the button. The display itself rarely fails.

And the last problem, which, although it seems amusing, is a whole barrage of phone calls to the masters. The fact is that almost all modern monitors have several outputs: D-SUB, DVI, HDMI, etc. You can select the priority one in the monitor menu. If there is a mismatch between the "main" and the really connected output, the screen will not show anything.

But when the monitor does not turn on the laptop, it's all a little more complicated. You can recommend trying to press a special key combination that includes a screen on mobile computers.
