How to start training a puppy? Official dog breeding

Each owner wants his dog to be well-bred and perform a certain set of commands. To achieve a positive result, experts advise starting work with a four-legged friend as early as possible, best from puppyhood. How to start training a puppy, how much time to give and how often to conduct classes - read all about this in the article.

When to start training

If the dog is already 1-1,5 years old, then it has acquired certain habits, unfortunately, it is not always useful. An adult dog, who has never been involved, will find it more difficult to get used to discipline, to understand what is required of him. At the same time the puppy learns, plays, very quickly mastering new skills, does not contradict the owner. All these arguments speak in favor of starting lessons with the dog as early as possible.

The basic rules of education of a puppy

Before you say where to start training a puppy, you should learn such rules:

  • You can start classes only if the dog is healthy, cheerful and cheerful. Do not try to teach the commands of a sick or tired four-legged friend.
  • After the puppy got into the house, it is necessary to give him time to adapt in the new environment, get used to the new food, love his master. Experts say that five days to adapt the puppy is enough.
  • Before you begin to train a puppy, it must be accustomed to the collar and leash.
  • The lesson should be played in a game form, as with a child, its duration at a time should not exceed 40-60 minutes, otherwise the child will get tired and stop listening, become sluggish or capricious.
  • The main motive for the puppy is praise and delicacy, so it is advisable not to feed it too tightly before training.
  • Choose only one command for this or that action and do not change it. If the puppy has learned the command "To me!", He will not understand your call "Come here!".

Another important point - the result of education depends on the breed of the dog. For example, the training of a shepherd puppy, a St. Bernard, a Rottweiler, a boxer, a dachshund, a poodle will be successful. The training of small breeds is always more difficult, because the nervous system of small dogs is weaker, they are more prone to stress, they get tired faster.

How to start puppy training

The beginning for everyone is the same - the puppy should be accustomed to a nickname and a collar with a leash.

The dog quickly gets used to the nickname. No special exercises are needed for this. It's enough simply to call your pet every time, clearly pronounce his nickname, repeat it while playing, feeding, caressing. It is important that the puppy has a positive association with his name, so at an early age, cursing the dog, avoid pronouncing her nickname.

As a rule, the puppy gets used to the collar with leash easily and painlessly. On the 5th-6th day after the baby came to your house, just put the dog's collar on. Depending on the nature and temperament, he may not notice it at all, or he may try to take off or chew. Distract the kid with a bright object, a treat or a game. Remove the collar just before bedtime. After this, we can assume that the first day of training ended successfully. On the second day, again, put on the collar, you can already fasten the leash and even lead out for a walk.

The main thing is that the collar should be soft, do not rub the baby's neck, and the leash must be long enough for the puppy to walk with pleasure and to freely explore the surrounding world.

Basic Commands

How to start training a puppy, you already know - teaching to the nickname and the collar with the leash. What to teach next? Since the dog is still in childhood, it will not learn complex commands, and long trainings will be tedious, and leave a negative impression. Therefore, you can count on such commands:

  • The first block is the place, to me, fu;
  • The second block is to sit, close, lie, stand;
  • The third block is an aport, a facet.

Each block is given about 3-4 months, depending on the intelligence and psyche of the dog. That is the program the young dog performs about one and a half years. If training at home allowed the puppy to master this basic level, then we can say that the owner coped perfectly well.

"A place!"

Often the owners ask the question: "Can a dog sleep with the owner in the same bed?" No! Even small dogs need to know their place. It's not just hygiene or safety, but the dog must understand order and discipline.

It is not difficult to accustom a dog to a place. For this, on the first day, when you bring the puppy into the house, and he gets acquainted with the territory, take the baby to his bed and calmly say "place" several times. Always, when you see that the puppy is already pausing to rest, take it in your arms and take it to his bed, pronouncing the "place" in a calm tone.

You can not accustom a puppy to a place by putting a treat on his bed, because he will take it as a signal to action and will carry there food from a bowl.

A lesson is considered mastered when the kid is at the command "Place!" Runs where it should be.

"To me!"

This command is most often used in everyday life. Whenever a puppy runs to you of his own free will, or when you urge him to eat or play, clearly say "To me!". When the four-legged friend runs up, be sure to praise, pattle gently on the withers, with a major intonation say "Good for you!", "Good dog!".

And if the puppy played or was capricious and did not run up? Do not scold him! Simply approach the dog, hold it by the croup and, pulling to yourself, repeat the command. Then praise, encourage the delicacy.

The lesson is learned if the puppy resorts to the first call of the owner.

"Phew!"

It seems that everything is logical: the kid picked up something on the street or gnaws at your slippers, you come up to him, firmly say "Fu!" And select what is forbidden, you can even gently click the offender on the scruff. Such tactics are correct. But many make a typical mistake: the puppy picked up some kind of muck and joyfully brought it to the owner, and the one with the cry "Fu!" Picked out the booty and even hacked. You can not do this! Never punish a baby when he runs up to you. The puppy develops a negative reflex: he approaches the master, and he is scolded. The dog will not understand what is to blame, but will think that the beloved master does not want to see her.

The same error can be seen when the puppy makes a puddle in the daytime, and in the evening it will be poked into it with a nose and scolded. Absolutely illiterate behavior! The dog does not know how to build a causal relationship, like a person. The result of this behavior will be only that the puppy will be afraid of the owner's arrival home.

"Sit!"

After the first commands are mastered, they are executed immediately and in an arbitrary order, you can continue the training course and go to the second, more complex block.

A puppy can teach this team easier than an adult dog. The most common method: to call a four-legged friend, show him a treat and, holding it in front of the dog's muzzle, slowly lift up. As the puppy tugs his head, he sits down, while you can gently press the palm of your dog's back, as if helping her to sit down. Simultaneously, when the baby sits on his hind legs, say "Sit!" And entertain delicious.

The team is assimilated when the dog sits down on command and stands in such position as much as its master deems necessary. With a puppy with aging is better not to overdo it, otherwise it will get tired and will be harmful.

"Beside!"

Training team "Nearby!" - one of the most difficult lessons for the puppy and the host. You will need to teach the dog to go from the left side next, without running ahead and not falling behind. You need to start the lesson at the very end of an active walk. When the four-legged friend is sober, take a leash to the left hand, and a delicacy in the right at the level of the muzzle. Go forward so that the puppy runs after the delicacy, all the time repeat "Nearby!". After a few meters stop, give the baby a delicious, praise it. Do a few repetitions. Studying this team can take a week or more.

"Lie down!"

The process of working out is similar to training the team "Sit!". You should take in your right hand something tasty and keep a treat on the level of the dog's muzzle. Then slowly lower down to the ground, while gently pressing on the puppy's shoulder blades. When he lies down, hold him for a few seconds, repeating "To lie!", And then encourage by delicacy.

"Stand!"

To your pet learned to perform this command, you need to bring your right hand to his snout delicacy or your favorite toy, and left to hold his stomach in such a way as to prevent the dog from sitting down or lying down. At the same time, all the while saying "Stop!". It will be useful with the help of a treat for this command to make the puppy stand up from a lying or sitting position.

Teaching the dog fundamental skills, you can be sure that in the future it will be easy to give not only the teams of the third block, but also special service. To teach this dog a beginning dog will help the school of training.
