Fish crucian - habits and features
Despite the vast expanses of our country, it does not have such a place, except for the Kola Peninsula, where the fish of the crucian carp, one of the typical carp breeds, did not exist.
All ponds with standing waters, whether sandy or stone quarry or made by the hands of the people of the dam, a natural lake, a watery swamp or a calm river with a leisurely flow of water, are always full of them. Fish crucian carp breeds well where there is a lot of vegetation and silt on the bottom. After all, it gives her a stable food - worms, algae, larvae of mosquitoes and other insects. In the hottest summer months you can observe how they rise closer to the surface of the water, choosing shaded by bushes or trees near the shore, and remain there immobile, as if enjoying the warmth.
In our reservoirs there is a fish of two kinds of crucian carp. One nicknamed gold, the other - silvery. The first of these is absolutely natural and has a more rounded body shape. Silvery - bred by breeders in fish farms, but also well established in natural reservoirs and abundantly multiplies on a par with the golden "fellow", which in the central strip of Russia reaches a length of up to twenty-five centimeters and a weight of six hundred to seven hundred grams. Although many fishermen boast that they managed to catch two kilograms of goldfish, this is more an exception than the rule. In the reservoirs of fish farms, where fish are intensively fed with mixed fodder and grain, the silvery fish of the crucian reaches forty-five centimeters in length and can weigh up to four kilograms, but falling into natural conditions, it rarely exceeds the size of gold and slightly inferior to it in weight.
Normal fishing begins only from the time when the cherry begins to bloom, with every day more and more active and better. Tackles for crucian simple - it's a fishing rod with a length of at least four meters with a line 0.2-0.3 mm thick, in the color of seaweed, and with a light, very sensitive float. The hook should be with a straight bend and a shortened forearm. As a bait, use a dung worm, sponge, bread crumbs with boiled potatoes and cottage cheese or hard balls of undercooked potatoes, flavored with vegetable oil dough. The best time for fishing is early morning or evening sunset, although the silver crucian does not mind taking the bait and in the afternoon.
